got in on the south coast tonight, for some reason i thought i had to get in for a dive, glad i did got six good bass could of kept shooting but i think six is enough, there were some bream but couldnt get a clear shot but as for the bass they were every where,,

Got to be happy with that! I won't bother asking where on the south coast then.....
I got in too but they were thin on the ground,a few lone bass coming in for a peek but nothing amazing.Managed one bass and a mullet,both of which went to my mate who blanked so his Mrs might let him out a bit more often.Winds look like they're going round for a few days,surfing anyone?

Purchased newly introduced venom apnea 90 from Spearo Dave yesterday. Took it for a spin on south coast last night and had some great longer range tester shots in the good vis resulting in 3 bass - happy days! Very pleased with performance of the new gun.
Was also surrounded by mullet as soon as I got in, but decided against them because of the long swim I had planned. I noticed that most of the fish (mullet and bass) seamed to disappear after the sun went out of view. I wondered if they were following the last of the sunshine up the coast..... Any thoughts??

Seem to be able to find and spear Pollack, but my sightings of Bass have been brief, until today. I very decent sized bass was heading away from me, so I tried, as advised on this forum, to croak like a frog. This resulted in some obscure sound, and plenty of bubbles. To my surprise the fish turned and made its way towards me, turning side on at mid range to present me with the sort of target which I have been hitting most of the time in the case of pollack. I missed.
As a pub cricketer, I am familiar with the aftermath of dropping a sitter, in which the scene is repayed again and again in my mind. The catch gets easier, as does the fish get bigger and closer.
I may need a shrink if I keep this up.

Hey Googly I find a "light" croak works a treat to bring them in as long as they not startled. As for missing a bass man I hear you. Pollack,,,,calm and collective, shot placed exactly where aimed but bass,,,, Mass panic heart beat rising and shooting right over the head 
Bass make me laugh sometimes, came round the weed yeaterday and ran into a bass. We both froze and eyeballed each other. I sloooowly raised my spear. The bass held his ground. I didnt breath.
I decided the bass wasn`t worth shooting , maybe 1.5 lb. But he liked me! He made his way up to the end of my spear and tried to nibble it lol. It was tempting but I liked him so let him go

Things are desperate! Viz is poor, but clearing in these south eastlies!.... but what a great 24hrs of surf Badlander ;>) !!! ... enjoyed it and surely you put your speargun down for that little pulse of waves. Waves on my B Day! Surfed Am and PM, and had some great waves. Suprised only a few surfers scoring it and I hadn't gone to much trouble to find a quieter spot.
Today I dug out my climbing gear and managed to get down to a cove with some limited gear. A surfers wetsuit so I could reduce the lead weight I climbed with. Great cove, but viz about 1m. Strong current out of the bay but feels good. A few more days and time to recover from the climb, stinging nettle rash and horsefly bites and I'm on it! The effort getting to this spot must hold some reward! I'll keep you posted.

Yep,had few surfs but jesus was it busy!Got my eye on a little dive tomorrow if the swell drops even more from today.There's a spot like that near me that i've been wanting to dive for a while....bit of hike,sketchy footpath then descending the final bit with the aid of dodgy ropes tied to the cliff.We used to surf there when we were younger and had the energy to be arsed with it.Reckon it's fishy as though so one day i might actually pull my finger out.Probably Portreath tomorrowthough if all goes well.
I also have a venom. Great gun and very easy to handle. Sounds like you had a good day to try it out. Well done.
Went in off Swanpool in the week but internet has been down, picked up a fair sized plaice, 2 pollack and a cuttlefish. Am considering getting a kayak to extend my range a bit, was wondering what people recommend, am on a fairly limited budget but keen to get deeper.
Was hoping to get in that way tomorrow round Maenporth way.How was the vis after those SE winds? Bit too much swell scuppered my hopes for a north coast one today although apparently aggie was looking pretty clear from the cliffs.Looks promising for the weekend so i'm planning a dawns crack mission in the morning to catch the low tide and push.Swanpool always seems to be a good place for plaice,which side did you go?I used to tend to favour the right hand side out to the point.
Spearflap and myself got Perception Freedoms which are great. Very fast and stable. The spec we got goes for about £450 but you can get them cheaper without some of the extras. If you intend to go out for a long paddle get a seat and back rest! The best advice i can give you is to try out the modle you want before you buy. Make sure it suits you and there is room to fit in all your gear and allow entry/exit into the water. Let me know if you want any more advice. Check back in this thread for photos of my kayak.
I am looking to to be heading out on mine on dawns crack too to try out some reefs. Got to be early to avoid the dive boats!
This morning was a wrong from the moment the alarm kicked he in the head at 4:45am. Got down to launch my kayak but couldnt find the beach! The fog was so thick you could lean against it! No way was i paddling a mile offshore in that! Anyway, headed off to a beach around the corner and launched the kayak from a beach and followed the cliffs to a bay i wanted to check out. Great ground but i was followed by a big bull seal. He watched me plop into the water and i spent the next 30 min with him pulling me around by my fins, biting my line from my gun to the kayak, stalking me as i lay hiding in the kelp and generally making sure any fish in the area was skittish as hell.
Time to move on so i jumped back on and paddled up to another bay i had dived before but the viz as really bad. The fog was not helping and i was getting cold so i was struggling to stay down which ment i missed out on 2 good sized bass. Got 1 which was just over 40cm which ment things were good for dinner tonight. It was a good job i kept to my ethics as i was met back on the beach by a fisheries officer who wanted to chat to me to find out what i intended to do with my bass (if i was going to sell it) and to check it was on size.
After that i had a quick look back to the original spot to find it was perfect. Quickly rerigged the kayak and paddled out. High tide so it was slightly deeper than normal but loads of fish. Viz was upto about 5m but was lack tide stopped and turned it dropped to between 3-4m. Loads of fish action and ended up with 3 more bass about 3 to 3.5 lb. Saw loads more and saw some really big ones but they kept their distance from me. As someone pointed out a while back "thats how they manage to get so big!" Just finished a BBQ with a nice bass, which is now looking well loved, and sitting back washing him down with a stella or 4. :friday

Dived in the Falmouth area last night,i was heading around to another bay but had a few dives along the way.First dive and i was settling into the kelp keeping an eye out when about 30-40 bass just flooded my feild of view."Kerching" i thought but they were all schoolies at the front with the doables predictably at the rear.Found a few gulleys that you could drop into,crawl through about 20 ft then pop up to surprise them.I was directly under a good sized fish but i hesitated because i thought it may have been a sea trout.It was in the 5-6lb region but due to my position he was shadowed by the sun and i couldn't be sure,off he swam and i'm pretty sure it was a sea trout.After a while of being overwhelmed with small fish i thought i'd be a good opportunity to experiment with sounds.Tried some flat grunting sounds which i'm sure attracted bass into the area but at closer range had an adverse effect.The pollock loved it though and would rush in to check it out.Had so much fun doing this i managed not to shoot anything so i continued on to the spot i was heading for.Tethered up my float and did rounds.Heading first through the shallows and the string weed then heading back along the deeper reefs.Picked up a bass straight away but i developed a sinus clearling issue which made diving a bit unpleasent.Saw a few mullet which said hello but i left them alone.Saw more smallish bass on the way back that just weren't fazed in the slightest by me.I was in for 4 hours,managed only one bass,saw bloody loads but enjoyed the chance to mess about with different techniques.Vis was crappy off the beach,cleard to about 5-8m off the point but murkey and cleared fully to about 8-10m in the next bay.Warm as toast and generally lovely all round.One of those dives you wish someone else was there to witness the fact that our shores do indeed hold plenty of life to appreciate.
Anyway,heading off again tonight so fingers crossed for a repeat but with some bigger fish.

I went in from Stack Point and swam back to Swanpool on Friday and blanked. It was a good dive saw some schoolies and saw a largish bass in the string weed nearer the beach but little else other than jetskis. Lost a fin whilst mulling over whether I could get in and a wave crashed over ( cressi , if anyone finds it )at Harlyn earlier in the week and struggled without boots and dinky fins for what was quite along swim. Went in at Roseland yesterday and saw buckets of Pollack and a couple of small bass vis was great. Had lots of early morning diving this week, best was a six and a half pound lobster worst was losing a fin. Hopefully new fins arrive soon.
