Going on a shellfish hunt today to exploit the low tide. Might get some razor clams and mussels for tonight's supper! Rather hungover from seasonal cheer so no diving for me today.

Managed some pretty good foraging on the south coast yesterday. Came home with a delicious medley of razor clams, cockles, clams and mussels. Took me two hours to de-barnacle the 5 or 6 kilos of mussels which was a bit of a chore but well worth it. We took the haul round to a buddy of ours who laid on a spanish seafood masterclass. I have never tasted such good mussels. :friday No dodgy tummy today either!

I take it that you were not diving for these treats? How did you get the razors out (lots of Salt?)

Yep, we just foraged the shore and the waterline. We did some research before hand to establish the cleanest areas to pick. We used lots of salt for the razors and a squirt of water, but it was quite a battle of wits as not all of them came up. Made for quite bizarre entertainment really. I've not dived for a while but I may try and see if it is possible to get razors underwater. The biggest empty razor shells I have seen were at Coverack so I may try there sometime. They are very tasty grilled with garlic and olive oil!

Hi Dave - you should try contacting Samdive (of saltfree) she has moved down to cornwall and used to run freediving pool sessions with us in Bristol.

Alternatively if you can get a few guys together maybe try contacting one of your local dive centres who could mark off a lane for you in their regular pool training sessions. In Bristol many of the pools are hired out by dive clubs at night for diver qualification sessions.

My girlfriend and I went for a sublime freedive this afternoon in a new location. The visibility was crystal clear, so clear that at points I was able to spot scallops on the bottom from the surface. Needless to say my tastebuds got the better of me and I was able to get six eyepopping specimens for the dinner table. All in all it was a winter dive to rival the best of any I had during the summer. Did not see any fish but there was still a lot of interesting stuff to be seen. Water was cold but nice courtesy of Elios :t

Scallops fried in butter served with a pea and spinach puree. Merry Christmas all!

I'd be up for some winter pool training anywhere between Bodmin and Plymouth. There was a post from someone working at Saltash leisure centre. They did lane hire at a reasonable rate - something like £12 an hour, which would be well doable between a small group. What region would others?

Merry Christmas all .Went in for a surf today was amazed at how cold it was! Thinking that my spearing may be on hold for a bit lol

Snap Padaxes! Can't believe i used to spear throughout the winter months. It was pretty cold today and to top it off we kinda failed to check it before we went in and it was tiny sideshore dribble! Still, nice to burn off some goose fat and chocolate grease.I'm off diving now till April 1st.

Hope everyone has a good new year.

Hah well I cracked and went in on the north coast today, cold and murky, there was a bit more swell than I thought, didnt see anything but bloody Wrasse again either :/

Still the two mile walk in all my gear was good exercise lol
