Agar4Life,

Talland is still a good safe dive site but you need to get out around the headland and into the tides and drop offs for a good chance of Bass.

Have PM'd you with more info!

Have any of you fellas out there been using 7mm suits or just toughing it out with the 5mm. I find I have to really generate some heat by swimming out before I can settle down for only 1/2 hour at the most this time of year - I think I'm part reptile. After that I start to loose O2 by shivering. Then I'm just back to charging around in shallower water checking out new likely spots.

I'm interested in the views of anyone who has a 7mm. I am available for the warmth but will I compromise mobility?

I am a bit of a stick and use 7mm all season and always have done. Haven't found any restrictions yet. If I am ever brave enough to start going deep then it may become a bit of an issue. Otherwise all good:)

Hoping to get a dive in this weekend, the wind is South West therfore a couple of good spots would have cleared up.......

I went out a few weeks ago in my 5mm suit for over an hour and a half and had no temp problems at all coulda stayed in for a lot longer. It can't have gotten colder by more than 2degrees so I would do it again.
My trick is warmth on extremities, I have a 5/7mm hood that just barely floods, dry gloves and 5mm boots (I use open foot fins).

The number one thing is the hood though. Makes all the difference. It's made by 'Waterproof' of Sweden and it is awesome.

Badlander, someone can correct me if I'm wrong!...

but my understanding of pots is that they continue to fish once discarded / lost with or without bait. Death traps if left.

Well i went back with a mate and try as we might,we couldn't find that crab pot for love nor money.We gave it a couple of hours.Gutted really.Shot a mullet for lunch and saw a group of 20-30 bass.I had three dives on which they would draw in to take a look but i know they tend to look bigger than they really are especially after a long winter.I couldn't get a good shot on the one or two bigger ones that hung back so i just enjoyed the moment and that was that.Saw one more bass on a dive but he was having none of it.Vis was not so good but still well fishable 5m or so.
Shame about the crab.It's gonna bug me but bloody nice to see so many bass so early.

bad luck on the bass mate, do you croak to bring them in? I watched a video on medfish yesterday and it does make a difference as soon as the guy started croaking they made a B line for him

You've had a couple of busy days by the sounds of it your either very fit or fit to drop after treking 45 minutes of coast path then swimming for a couple of hours.Well done all the same, don't suppose you could let me in on the location (pm maybe):)

I'll sometimes,when completely under the kelp,raise my gun up vertical and let it drop down again.Seems to work sometimes to attract their interest.But it's like SnS says.
Looking like an alright day today,although i havn't yet been outside and felt the temps.Might try a south coast spot near praa sands today as the winds look dead North.My friend dived swanpool yesterday abut only saw a spider and pollock.Vis was good although the wind was on it a bit.

Went in yesterday (when it wasn't snowing) on the east side of Mounts Bay, near the Greeb on the rising tide, lots of broken seaweed and I didn't see anything, not even a wrasse. I tried the throat thing and that didn't help either.......... It looks good though and parking was pretty good.

Yep,i didn't see a sausage either.Did touch my gun on an electric fence though and did a star jump that scattered my gear in all directions.I'm sure being in a wet rubber suit didn't help.
As for the dive,vis was 5m and it was a tad chilly.

Nipped down the south coast earlier for a quick hour.Spotted a good bass napping just under a ledge and tried a surface shot and........missed....muppet!.It was a good size too.That was all i saw.Then got close to a curious seal on the way back but he got bored after a few minutes and left me.Great viz....5-10m,pretty cold though.

Took the boat out for its first outing of the season on saturday on the south coast.
First up dived an offshore pinnacle that sometimes works early in the season. Clearest water I have ever seen there, in 51ft I could make out the sand and rocks on the bottom from the surface, nothing doing fishwise though!
Moved on to a wreck that often has big pollack on it. Again crystal clear water, and huge schools of pollack up to about 3lb, but nothing I wanted to shoot.
Water temp was 9c on the bottom, but I was toasty warm in a nice new 5mm suit
