Dived the north coast on friday,viz was 1-4m and doable.Shot a mullet and saw 1 small bass and pretty much dived straight into one in the kelp that was so close to my face i could have bit it.Had a quicky on the south coast yesterday at a new spot for me,vis was lovely and the terrain was amazing...didn't see one bass though and saw loads of really chunky mullet but didn't really require one.Halfway through my dive though there was this mighty bang and i surfaced to see a huge cloud of smoke about a mile away in the area i was originally planning to dive.I guess it was an old ww2 bomb being delt with as i got stuck behind a navy bomb disposal van coming home.I'm sure it totally freaked the fish out,those normally inquisitive wrasse and pollock were just darting into the kelp everytime i went down which struck me as odd.Scared the crap out of me though but i'm glad i wasn't closer as i'm sure i'd have soiled my suit!

Hi all just returned from my weekend (well day) in Cornwall. Geat dive for the three of us. Dived north coast in the morning, long swim with vis between 3 and 8m depending on the plankton. Vertical vis was much better than horizontal. Got into a school of bass but missed one and then had one pull off due to not enough penetration. Combination of vis playing tricks and some bad rigging I noticed later. Picked up some nice cock spider crabs though and one of our group managed a bass from the same school. Later we dived the south coast, hunted for ages with just sporadic sightings of spooky bass, vis again was good 2-6m eventually found where the fish were and cleaned up, a decent mullet and five bass taken by me, and similar numbers by the rest. Excellent BBQ after and some bass to take home. Great dive and better weather!
Was a great dive, waiting for the pics to get emailled across, will have them up soon I hope.

I had a good dive off a spot near Kingsand on Saturday morning. The water was quite clear, about 12-15ft viz. Five minutes in and I had a flounder on my belt, taken in 5ft of water. I swam a bit further on and saw a bass swimming along the front of a group of rocks, so I took the shot. The spear went right through and hit the rock behind. With the bass on my stringer, I checked the speartip. The thread adapter was bent, so I tried to straighten in out, and the tip snapped off.
I decided not to go home as I had just got in, so I reasoned that if I got close enough to a fish, I could blast the bare shaft right through and hold it on the line. For the next hour I waited in the weeds. Nosing through a load of stringweed, a bass swam in front of me broadside 3-4ft away. He was moving fast, and a hit him right in the body. The shaft went through and dropped down into the weed. I grabbed him in the gills and finished him with the knife.
Possibly the coolest shot i'll make this year!

Dave Pollock has got to be up there with the biggest fish taken but the biggest thing I saw in the sea last year was shaped a bit like a certain Regional Adviser but then again it couldn’t have been as no normal person has that many chins.roflroflroflrofl
