Hi all, myself and family are heading to the UK for our hols this year and Cornwall is the most likely destination. Where is the best for spearing, north or south coast? It'll be a camping/caravan holiday so any recommendations on accommodationwould be appreciated.

PM Podge, he knows a good campsite and you would be smack bang in the middle of some good south coast spots....Lizard area.
It may be worth a new thread "Spearo Campsites UK?" , as I am planning similar. I don't know them by name but great campsite between St Just and Pendeen (marked on the OS map). You will find 2! The one you want is on the main road (don't turn off the road, as there is another not so nice campsite). The good one is very near to the pub! I will see if I can find its name.
Also have stayed at a nice spot nr. Praa Sands. I think we turned right at the chinese resturant (driving from penzance to helston).
I'd be intersted to learn of a few more recommended spots. Clean, tidy, cheap and nr the sea, and nr. a pub :friday! Taking a mate camping next week! We will be snorkeling and hopefully have some time swimming with the seals! , but may skip the spearing (mate is new to this and feel he should look first!). its a sure way of seeing the double figure Bass!
Little things can really make a campsite! BBQ pits, Local real ale pub :friday, Level pitch, Showers that last 10mins on a 20p coin! , Hedgehogs, etc.

I’ve not stayed at to many camp sites in Cornwall as I like my creature comforts to much to stay in a tent for to long. I'm more of a barn conversion type.

They have got camping spaces for tents but it’s a quite site with no pub or club but I thought it was good for the family and it was cheap. Reckon I paid £80 for the last Bank Holiday weekend down there and like I said that was for a caravan.

Dived the north coast yesterday at Portreath.Headed out to Gull rock for a sniff about in the kelp but only drew in the pollock and some small school bass.Slowly dived my way back to the pier and noticed a large group of pollock which i dropped into.I was then 'rushed' by a huge group of school bass.They all looked pretty small though with maybe one or two looking legal size but,hard to tell so just enjoyed the moment.Went across into the next couple of bays for a look round the shallows but saw nothing,not even a mullet.The tide started pushing so headed back out the area of the schoolies to see if any bigger ones had appeared but,nah....same small ones.
Vis was superb,really clear and the temp was much improved.Looking good again today for the North.

Thanks for the replies lads, we'll be staying near Helston in a caravan site in the middle of june. Can't wait, Cornwalls coastline looks great. Hopefully the english summer will be good to us. Are bass for the taking all around the Cornish coast or are some areas better than others?
Managed to get in with Nickever last week,first session of the season.He pretty much told the story but thought i would just stick my picture on here purely for showing off purposes as it was a P.B!!!4lb3oz to be precise,not a monster but good enough and it is still early!!!glad to hear you guys been managing a few dives.got myself a nice new weight belt so itching to get in again soon.shame weather turning for bank holiday!

Hoping to get in tomorrow after being a bit too unwell to dive.Winds looking fairly stiff NE so i'm thinking somewhere between Lands End and Porthcurno.Looks like a few spots might be doable,maybe Porth Chapel.Anyone got any experience of around there? I've dived Porthgwarra before but i think the wind might be on it a bit.
Nickever been down Sennen few times Badlander,big gully just off pier. Said it was teeming with fish. Been down Portherris beach near Pendeen once spearing but loads of times with rods. Lots of fish,big pollock. Was quite new to the game tho so bit put off when massive seal started playing with us!!!
I ended up driving down to Porth Chapel but the wind looked a bit iffy so i turned around and drove to another south coast spot near praa sands.Conditions were good,slight movement and 7m vis on the whole.Tried my luck mooching around the shallows hoping to pick up some bass in the string weed but had no luck so tried the deeper water off the back of the reef and soon started seeing fish.Managed two bass by the end and saw plenty more but none that were offering a comfortable shot and all were stretching my breath hold considerably.It's normally a really quiet spot due to it's secluded location so i was fairly disheartened to be joined by some wakeboarders on a jet ski and then an RAF helicopter practicing low level flying and winching!Still,i was beat by then so i was happy.
Ok Talland bay low down, I dive here a lot so bear with me if it gets long..
Enter at the first (very small) car park which is up a bank over the shore. Go in straight ahead over the rocks (they are slippy!) When your in head diagonally right you will find some reefs almost straight away these hold schoolie bass most of the time usually where they meet the sand with the occasional big one and odd mullet. After Ive covered these reefs as far as the old wrecked boiler I head out to the left hand point of the bay, here is occasionally bass, mullet, red mullet and dogfish, from here i then swim straight across the bay to the right hand headland which holds the same, after that i swim towards the main sandy beach diving the gullies to the right and the sand which holds various flatties finally heading back to where i got in and diving the first reefs again. I also dive outside the bay and some other local areas.. details of which im gonna keep to myself for now!
