Anybody got any idea what the conditions are like on the south coast at the moment? Vis/Fish etc? Fancy getting in after work to catch the rising tide but not sure where to go? Not been in in a while cos been on holiday. Maybe lizard area or porthleven....

I've been in the last couple of days near Porthleven and the vis was just about doable yesterday but it got much better today. Got a nice mullet and smaller bass and fairly sure I saw about six or seven bream ? It was in only four metres they were moving fairly slowly but away in the gloom, it was at the end of a dive and I got excited and shoot in hope more than anything. I didn't see them again and wished I hadn't shot!! Do they normally come in shallow in the open water ? I know they do in the Fal but wasn't expecting to see them in Mounts Bay. All good fun though, next dive I landed on the tail of a big bass in the kelp that obviously I didn't see again. hey ho

Dropped in off the North Coast yesterday on the high tide. Vis much better than of late but was a little patchy (3-6m) - certainly fishable though. Bass were frustratingly nervous but Pollack very obliging!

Bunked off work for the afternoon and went in today at Swanpool and headed right, lots of bait fish/shoolies about and found a couple nice schools of Pollack with some decent sized fish in their midst, also saw half a dozen bass of takeable size. Everything was a bit twitchy and I couldn't stay down long enough for them to gain enough cofidence to approach. Took a couple long shots but to no avail, then on the way back in a half decent pollack (just over 1lb) literally through himself onto my spear, possibly a little unsporting but have a bbq tonight and fancied some fresh fish. Like Napper wishing I hadn't taken pop shots at the bigger ones as my air was running out.

Bunked off and took a friends boat out for a spin on the South Coast yesterday. Viz was ok, but cloudy and very bitty.
Lots of schoolies, but I only saw one sizeable bass (5lb) which came home with me

anyone dive in falmouth bay area last this week? I'm sure I a weird noise underwater on wednesday but no divers about..... just wondering about the navy and those dolphin deaths? Sounded like the noise you could make through a snorkel or reg if you tried to speak? wasnt me farting in my suit or my kit buubling either.
Anyhow really big shoals of too small bass and mackeral about and nice vis.

Heya Jim, my old man has been a commercial trawlermen and angling skipper for the past 30+ years and he is almost certain that the dolphin deaths are due to Matelots and their sonar. He has noticed allot of the fishing has been ruined over the years in areas where the Navy train.

Been in quite a few times on the North Coast around Padstow and Port Issac, the vis has cleared up and today it was great. No fish but again I've seen quite a few small bass with one or two over the three pound mark but out of range or too flighty. Maybe thought i saw a big big shadow today but ........ it was probably more aspirational than real. I generally find the North coast harder though ? How far up do they go ? Obviously they are in Wales but not in Bristol. Anyone know? Anyway i'm off with the family to the Lizard tomorrow anyone got any info. We're probably going to the west side around Church Cove but I don't know it well and have never speared and we can always go somewhere else if anyone knows any better. Thanks

Just spent two weeks in southern brittany at a place called le pouldu.Decided to take the surfboard over the spear kit and god did i regret it.The place looked so fishy and there were good number of spearos about.Ho hum.
Dived falmouth area this morning,timed it nicley to coincide with a squall that made it pretty bumpy.Vis 5m ish,pretty gloomy....fair showing of bass but none too big,missed the biggest one i saw with a poorly aimed surface shot.Found a nice sized lobster but had no means of containing him sadly,saw a fair sized sea trout too.Nice to get back in though and hoping to try the south coast tomorrow night.

Not exactly spearo news, but I've just got back from a week's hols in Portmellon. (WHY did I not take the speargun?!).
Anyways I got plenty of time with my fishing rod but caught so very little... A couple of pollack and a dogfish (released). Where were all the fish?
Saw a couple spearos there who took some flatties.

I wouldn't worry too much about not taking your kit to Brittany....looks fishy.....it isn't I promise you.

Have been in here and there over the past couple of weeks, although suffering from tendon shocks and ear infection!

Despite that have had a few Mullet, passed dozens of Bass that always get away as I pass in hope of bigger fish. Have bumped into a couple of larger fish in the kelp, that havn't stayed around or returned after a dive. They seem a bit more easily spooked this year for me!

Have started using the Yak as a dive platform / bouy. On the drift and at anchor. When this coast settles down I can't wait to venture out to the further reefs which although I've fished am hesitant to fin out to due to the swim back in!

I have been away in hiding so thought i'd better say hello. Having my usual slow start to the season but have started bring in a steady supply of bass with the help of the new kayak. It has been nice pulling in some mackeral on the handline while paddling out to the reefs too!

Pav, what kayak are you using? do you have any photos of your setup?
