Went further west at the start of the week with a buddy. Great first evening, as a dolphim joined the lineup. Seen them whilst surfing before but never as close.
Followed this with 3 dives. Mullet for both of us, but no Bass. Lot more about, but water feels cold to me. Wiped of the cobwebs at least, and got to try out my weight vest (some dissapointment, but I'll put it in the Mares Weight Vest thread).

in tonight - south west coast - bit of swell and current, lovely vis nearly 10m i'd say, saw some mullet, and a lot of spider crabs, let em go, no bass yet again, nice dive though, if the wind holds off it could be really good for this weekend.

In yesterday - almost north coast, monster pollack that swum right up to me in shallow(ish) water (which was a bit odd) - i let him be.
Shoals of big(ish - 4lb+) mullet as well, let them be too. Schools of small bass not many bigger ones - took one of the bigger ones home. Got a good spot tip from a fisherman for monster bass so maybe checking that out sunday.

Just read an article in the Cornish times (page 7) about an empty kayak being washed to shore at talland bay on the 28th may, Looe coastguard was called out, but it turned out to be a spearfisherman who had left it anchored up whilst spearing.

No mate prob why coastguard was called, bit annoying as Talland is my local spot, its bad enough with spearos shooting each other left right and centre (3 incidents in the last two month across the south coast) we dont need anything else giving us a bad name.
in this afternoon, new spot, went a bit too early, a few schoolies, big mullet - will go later in the tide next time, hopefully it'll give up some donkey bass...

vis in both spots was ace - 8m+, winds getting up a bit now though - fingers crossed it doesn't go milky again...

Went for my first little mission down the Lizard yesterday. Got the boat out and dived some great new spots.. vis varied from 5-10m+ -excellent in places. Took a 3lb bass within 20 mins of getting in then lined up a long shot on a better sized fish.. fired.. missed.. crimp failed on the line and spear lost 
gutted!! Had planned on diving all afternoon!! Took advantage of the vis anyway and pushed some deeper dives down to 15-20m to check out some holes.. found a edible crab that had dinner written on it then jumped back in the boat for some fishing. Caught one more takable bass on the rod later that arvo, then packed up just in time to enjoy an epic seafood bbq in a stunning spot and a ridicoulusly good sunset! Bar losing my spear (these things happen eh!) all in all good day!

Had a little sniff around the south coast earlier on a mates inflatable. As reported above the vis was splendid but the fish were rather thin on the ground. There was a few around but not a lot of size. Took 2 good sized mullet and a bass in the end as well as watching a very nice sized sea trout cruise past my spear tip.
Re kayak washed up at Talland - this is one of my local spots, and I do usually anchor up the kayak - but no it wasn't me. Got me thinking though - this forum serves a great purpose in promoting safety whilst spearing. I bet nearly all of us have made a mistake along the line that we have learnt from, and if shared, others can learn from it too. I know the BSA website has some good safety tips, but maybe we could start a thread where we can post do's and don'ts? There are always quite a few people joining the sport and this could be particularly useful for them. I know that we don't want to attract negative publicity, but it would be good to share tips somehow.
I did a tractor driving safety course once ( back in my janner days) - it was enlightening to hear everyone's stories. The medical profession have a culture of covering up mistakes which just leads to them being repeated - we shouldn't be like them.

I managed to get in on Saturday as part of a family beach day on the south coast. Was my first chance to try my new Cressi Geronimo Elite Mimetic. Vis was a bit iffy, but manageable. Handreds of spider crabs, but focusing on them meant I missed a nice Mullet that cruzed past, while I had the safety on. At first all the spiders were hens, but eventually picked up some cock crabs. I liked the handling of the Cressi, although the safty took a bit of getting use to compared to my Beauchat, but confident with it now. Saw a few small bass when I got further out, but nothing to shoot. Didn't think I was going to get to try the new gun until I saw a worth while pollack when I was nearly back in, so shot that one, that was then on the BBQ an hour or so later.
So the Bass seem to be coming in, but still haven't shot one. I'm looking forward to it,as it took me 6 hours of cooking and picking to liberate the kilo of meat from the 4 spider crabs. I know how to live it up on a saturday night!
