Joined a mate on his inflatable today. Early start on a mild morning. Stayed out till 2pm and got 4 bass. Plenty around but all mostly schoolies so it took a lot of work to get the 4. Vis was mostly good. Bloody starving when i got out and ended up trading a fish for a raid on some families beach bbq!

Went out on the South Coast (a la RIB) to a new favourite mark of mine on Friday.. it was absolutely teaming with bass!! The most fish I've seen this year by far.. every dive brought fish in.. mostly all takable size.. and sometimes up to 100 at once!! I was even getting repeatedly shoaled on the surface too which is rare!! Took 3 nice bass all around the 3/4lb mark and one chunky grey mullet too. Freezer is slowly filling up so gotta start chowing them down if theres gonna be enough room for a double figure fish in there!! :t Planning another Dorset raid this week!! Bring it onnnn! :martial

I'm afraid he's not... bogged down with work! i'm just popping up with a couple of mates.. one who'll be diving the other just fishing. I've gotta work saturdays now till end Aug so it's midweek missions for me for a while.. we're leaving tomorrow am.. prob camp in vans/tents somewhere till thurs/friday I reckon.. fully amped just packin up the gear.. the hunt for my first double figure bass continues :t

I went in this evening, Low tide at prussia. Came home empty handed (again!) but saw some small bream and a JOHN DORY. Was really happy as it was the first time I've seen a JD.
Having trouble holding my breath still though, I'm thinking of going on a freedive course, how many members here have been on a freedive course to improve their spearfishing? Any tips you can pass on to me?

Been an amazing few days on the south coast... Finally got over to Talland bay for a dive, managed a small mullet but didn't see much more silver....? I thought this place was legendary... Has it been over fished, was I in the wrong place or was it just today? It certainly looks like it should be real fishy...

hi si sorry i never replied the other day (brain not engaged) we were talking about looe island the other day and was thinking the same thing does the fact that the area has a good fleet of day boats affect the fishing/spearing locally?
Okay so I had a disastrous day today.
Went in on the south coast at low tide.
Started off seeing a massive lone bass, was 4-4.5lb I reckon, hefty bit of meat but it was swimming away from me so I couldn't get a shot.... Despite all my efforts could not find it again so went for a bit more exploring.
My buddy found a large lobster which, we tried to get but it refused to come out of his little cave, tried everything under the sun but the lobby ended up disappearing so that was the end of that...
Buddy got out and so I decided to go for one of the many pollock which were around (dont usually go for them because I'm keeping my eyes open for bass!) found a half decent size one (~40cm) had a shot which went in just behind the head in the spinal region but the fish flapped about and ripped off the spear and swam away (with a chunk missing....must have been just above the spine?) I had a little search as I figured it couldnt have got far but no sign of it...
Decided to cut my losses and call it a day then, still had a nice paddle around and I think my breathholds are improving.
Vis wasn't bad, about 6-7m but was slightly murky, top metre or so was very murky but I guess this could be due to algae bloom?
Still had a nice paddle and going to try it out at high tide on Monday. Wish me luck!
