Why does my left eye hurt so much when I dive? I can do the mouthfill no trouble but regardless of equalizing its a really acute pain and forces me to the surface. Figure it might be sinus related. Any other sufferers? Falmouth bay vis 3 to 5 this evening, skittish massive mullet seen, looking good for tomorrow. How do I fix my eye?!
I'm not a doctor but the back of the eye is connected to the back of the throat eventually which is why you sometimes can cough up an eyelash.
. It sounds like somewhere might be blocked within that whole complicated system so best to go and see a doctor and get it checked out! Good luck.You can cough up eyelashes?! Bugger me that's news! I used to find if I did not equalise my mask enough it would be "forced equalised" through my right tearduct. VERY unusual feeling I can assure! Maybe the pressure difference is causing it and is trying to be equalised through the duct but a blockage in the tearduct is causing the pain? I wouldn't risk my eyes with anything so maybe worth heading to the docs to see what they suggest like other members have suggested.
(thinking of coughing eyelashes reminded me of a video on YouTube of a guy putting candles out by squirting milk from his tearduct. Cringe worthy!)

Used to go to the bottom of Dolphin equalizing through my tearducts, using a mask without a nosepiece. I think Herbert did it once as well.
These days my tearducts are so large when I sneeze the gunk can come through them into my eyes as well - it's not so nice, I wouldn't advise it if you can help it.
@watermandrew, Everyones got an opinion and all that but I would say it's sinus related if the pain is around your eye socket bony area . If it feels like it's "inside" your eyeball then go see a doctor, otherwise i would just use some vicks and a bowl the night before you dive and see if that helps.
We used to see people at Dolphin complain of the same thing, they would carry on diving a wee bit after some ephedrine and a half hour wait, then sometimes you would see em come up with a browny red ball of sludge coming out of their nose - not so pretty, but they were fine after it

Thanks for the tips! I'm going in at swanpool area now, will report back on vis and usual lack of catching fish haha. 2 sessions today? Yeahhhhhh
cheers, really appreciate the advice - will have an explore. Has anyone tried the docks beaches? The little coves along pendennis point (not on the side cornish diving throw tourists in the water, the carrick roads side). The seals seem to like it there, which is promising. Maybe it's all the toxic crap the docks pump out? three eyed fish anyone? will give it a go this week...
Falmouth bay vis is cracking, 4 to 6 and getting better by the hour.
No sinus trouble today, blew my nose frequently and removing mask to breath out of nose for 5 minutes every 10 dives seemed to work, so thanks for the advice, might even have an insulation later for kicks.
2 bass in on aspetto but stayed out of range, crafty sods. I love this sport its hard! Breath holds improving, but genuinely beginning to think I could benefit from a camo suit - yay or nay?

Yeah get one mate, you can never have enough kit.
That's exactly what a scuba diver said to me today, luckily scuba, freediving and Spearing have kit that crosses over which makes it a little bit cheaper (at least thats what I tell myself) unfortunately mountain biking which I started this year does not so that mo
unches up a lot of money ! Esp after having to replace my first bike that got nicked.
Day of freediving tomorrow then back down to cornwall, hoping the vis and the fish stay around till I get back!

Shot some scales off a mullet, cheers thanks for coming. Honestly can't understand how it happened, it was plum. Andycornish suggested spears fire a bit high at close range? Both ended up fishless, shame because it looked good at the start with some mullet action. The fish disappeared as the tide flooded, is this typical of spring tides?
New cressi tecnica is nice though, apologies to badlander but I got all carried away in the dive shop amidst the bank holiday cheer.

Did a night dive last night and spent an hour looking for bass in stringweed and then another hour in the kelp and then sand, saw a small mullet and john dory but very little else.
Then with a long 4hr dive with watermandrew as he said was a promising start seeing a mullet shooting past on my first dive and then seeing nothing but the odd undersized pollack and plenty of wrasse. Can only assume the spring tides make things strange, as being in for 4 hrs meant saw a pretty good range of the tide.
Will admit I got suit envy when I saw the brand new camo suit ! vis was 4-6m to start with at all depths and then on the incoming tide the top 3-4m went down to 2m (ish) with the clarity still below the 3-4m. So to summarise 6 hrs in the water and not a fish to be had. Was good to put a face to a name on the forum and nice to not dive alone

Had one of my best dives of the season yesterday I'd not seen a single Bass for a good hour in my one of my favourite Bass spots so I took advantage of the good vis and lack of swell and followed the reef right out to sea only to luck out and see my first Cod on a dive to about 18m.. BOOM he was in the bag! Feelin pretty stoked with myself I decided to play safe and made my way back towards land only to plug 2 solid bass on the way in!! 
So Chuffed!!
Back in this avo before the swell picks up on the weekend! :martial
