I just got back from an aquarium and found myself wishing I'd done this far sooner..

You get to have a relaxed look at all the different species of fish that you don't often see. It gives you plenty of time to study the differences between various species of breams, rays etc., shows you the tell-tale signs of a flatfish buried underneath the sand and just generally seeing them in real life is just so much better than looking it up on google images.

I've been spearing for a couple of years now and considered myself versed enough but still thought it an absolute revelation... I'd say it's a must for any serious beginner spearo.

Thanks for your help with the torches, so basically I want the brightest torch I can afford with a tight beam? size isn't too much of an issue, rather a tougher better quality LED type? Many thanks.... will be on my Christmas list! hahaha....

Just spotted your post. I recently bought an Xtar D06 (click here: Xtar D06 60m Diving Torch Cree XM-L T6 800 lumen | eBay) and can very highly recommend it. It is bright, tough, and lasts a good 2 hours on full brightness, although if you dim it down a little it's still more than enough; on full beam it's like holding a car headlight in your hand! Plus I can highly recommend the seller on the ebay listing - he is very helpful and it's well worth buying from him rather than direct from China as his service backup is excellent.

Thanks for all the help with torches but the more I think about it the more I think about how easy it must be to make one...... I've been looking all over the net and there isn't a lot of info on DIY torches and I couldn't find much on here... Can anyone help or even better has anyone got creative?
Also whilst having a walk on Perranporth beach trying to cure my hangover after new years I saw two trigger fish washed up. I've never seen any in the water and would have expected to see them on a reef rather than a sandy beach and also wouldn't have expected to see them this time of year...? can you eat them and what do they taste like?..... anyway heres a pic, cheers

Yes they are great to eat when fresh but they bite like a wounded great white!
