Happy new year folks.

Here's to some better conditions in 2013.

Not to mention ever hopeful that I get out more this year so I spend more time reporting catches rather than just reading about them.

Have a god one.

Happy New Year to everyone and all the best for 2013
Lets try and liven up this years Cornwall thread as 2012 was pretty quiet compared to the rest.
So whats everyones spearfishing goals for this year ?
I'm hoping for my first double figure bass, I managed one on rod and line with the help of shiny1 last year and now I have a new boat and some top marks lined up I think I'm in with a pretty good chance of spearing one :)

I'll be happy to get out and bag a few bass. Last year was poor for me. Only got out a handful of times with only 1 or 2 bass to show for it.

Anyone getting in this time of year? Anything about from the shore?

I guess another goal is that I would love to find some scallops and maybe a lobster.

I'll be getting in as soon as the vis improves sj, theres plenty of flounder and big pollock to be had and if your lucky the odd bass might still be about.

Would be good to get in.

I really miss Dive Genie for the viz forecast.

You'll have a few double figures under your belt by the end of this year mate :)

Did you sort out an outboard for the boat yet?

My aims at the moment are tom improve my general fitness, and improve my static and dynamic apnea. Hope that this will be of benefit in the sea with longer / deeper / more relaxed and enjoyable dives. Hopefully this, and getting out to a few new marks will then result in improved fish hauls. Also need to get some cash together for a few bits of gear.

I just listed a GoPro HD Hero in the Buy/Sell section if anyone is interested.

(sorry to hijack thread)

Having hit a bit of an all time worst weight at Christmas, coupled with feeling horribly unfit I have been prompted into action to get active even in this grim weather.

For me, it's on a mountain bike regularly pounding some of the trails around mid Cornwall. As I'm starting to gain a littel fitness (well I can walk up stairs without resusitation now) I keep thinking about how it might pay off when I get in the water with longer swims and longer dives.

Just wonder what the rest of you guys and gals are doing to keep fit while you're out of the water. Are there any great easily accessable activities that are particularly beneficial that the rest of us should be having a go at?

Also thinking socially. I've met very few of you and generally dive alone. Is there any interest in the odd get together for a (gentle) bike ride say, or other activity in these winter months? Possibly meet some new dive buddies, and maybe help encourage each other a bit on the fitness front?

Just got thinking so thought I'd pop something up here to see if there's any interest?

As a starter for ten, I regularly get out on the Goss Moor trail (just down the road from me) and the Camel trail. Both are reasonably flat so anyone can have a go, and for evening sessions you can get away with a relatively cheap light or head torch as they aren't technically difficult. From some of the reading I've done it seems (convieniently) that low heart rate zone exercise can be very beneficial if you put the hours in, and a social ride sounds perfect for that to me. A range of rides can be done on these trails from about 7 miles to 30+.

I also did Coast2Coast return a week ago on a day off. Devron to Portreath and back again. A bit harder and more moutain bike oriented, but no king of the mountain stuff. About 22 mile round trip (or 26 if you get lost like I did on my first attempt) and the last 3-4 miles as you drop from Scorrier down to Devron is nearly all down hill and a good muddy blast. Take a change of clothes or something to cover the car seats, you will be lagged by the end. About 2 and a half hours riding time for average fitness I would say.

Over to you guys. Hopefully catch up with a few more of you this year.

Came across a big clump of goose barnacles walking today (N devon). Strange looking thing. Not sure if these grow locally or have been washed up from the south?
