Hello,

I am finally graduated from the university. During the short vacation I want to take a course of free-diving for compete beginners. Do you have unbiased recommendations? The constraints are the winter season (so it maybe better to go to
Southern Hemisphere or it's still OK to stay in Northern Hemisphere). Currently, I reside in Mediterranean area.

Looking for recommendations.

Thank you.

There are plenty of good places in winter. I've done most my diving in South-east Asia and Caribbean and both are good all year round. These are still northern hemisphere but quite far nonetheless. If you want something nearer maybe consider Egypt? I haven't been myself but looking at average water temperatures in winter of around 22 °C it seems doable (though still a little cold for my taste!).

Could you elaborate a bit more about specific places in South-east Asia?

Winter is the best time of year for most south-east asian coutries. Basically anything north of Malaysia will be good to go (Malaysia and Indonesia have their monsoon during winter). Thailand could be a good option because there is a large number of freediving schools and it is probably among the cheapest places in the world to do it. Philippines could be a good option as well: personally my favorite country around that part of the world.

I can recommend freediving in Tenerife with Atlantis Freediving a School runned by Freedive International. I went there in march and had a great level 1 and 2 course with comfortable temperatures with a 5mm. Awesome wreck around 20 meters. Just all in all great and rewarding experience with trustworthy and experienced instructor Pavol and Linda Paganelli was there with good tips and for shooting pics.
