Cressi geronimo elite speargun size

Hello this is my first tread so please tell me if im posting in the wrong place.

I am new to spearfishing and am about to by my first speargun. I have been advised to buy a CRESSI Geronimo elite speargun not to expensive and will last a good amount of time and shoots straight, is this right?

I will be freediveing around the southcoast uk off shore, wont get much chance to get on boats i don't think unfortunately, but i think there will be chance for bass, pollock, place, flounder, mackerel and hopefully plenty more . Was wondering what length of speargun I should get I was thinking of an 85cm but was wondering of peoples thoughts. If I bought an 85cm how far would would i be shooting accurately?

The Geronimo elite is a good gun that will shoot accurately and last for a long time. Another option would be to look at

Picasso UK | Spearfishing Gear they are a new company based in weymouth dorset, they have various guns in stock and can cater for all from beginner to expert. I would personally recommend a gun 70-80cm long if its your first gun. This length of gun is a perfect length for general spearfishing, that will be ok to use in most Vis conditions. It will also be able to shoot all of the fish you mentioned. It all boils down to the diving you will be doing, if you are predominately night diving then I would recommend a gun around 50-60cm. If you are diving crystal clear water with skittish fish (such as black bream) then I would recommend a longer gun of 90cm + but these types of diving are specialist. If you are just starting out and general diving then a 70-80cm gun is ideal.

Thank you for your advice . If i got better with spearfishing would I have to get another longer gun for bigger better fish at longer distance or could i just change the bands to a thicker high quality band to shoot harder and further? cheers

Well most decent guns use the same quality rubber, but rubber is available in different thicknesses. So you can uprate the rubber to a thicker one or even use two rubbers if the gun can handle it. But you have to match the spear to the rubber size to maintain accuracy. The factory setup is the best combination of power and accuracy generally. But most guns can be adapted or uprated, but most of this is purely personal preference. If you want to dramatically increase your range you will need a longer gun. But the long guns are only suitable in clear visability, but using thicker rubbers or even two rubbers (matched with spear and longer shooting line- known as a double wrap) will give you more power throughout the full shooting range.

It is not a necessity to have more than one gun, it depends on the conditions and venues you dive, How serious you are about it, And obviously your budget. Many successful spearos only have 1 or two guns and still consistently catch fish. But if you are starting out I would stick to one gun and then invest in other equipment such as a smb (surface marker buoy), weight belt, knife etc

You can't go wrong with a Cressi!

From what I have read, the Geronimo Elite is very accurate and very well engineered.

Not the cheapest bandgun on the market, but you get what you pay for.

1. Well, my fins are 900mm - foot pocket included!
   But there are fins [seac sub shout S1000] who have 1000mm length [footpocket included]
   And I definitely saw bi-fins longer than 1000 mm!
   Generally you can find this sort of things by searching the well-known brand, because they give also the length in the tehnical specs...
   [cressi; mares; leaderfins; specialfins; seacsub, etc]
   And yes! the Barracuda at 780mm is a relatively short freediving fin
