Cressi Low Volume Masks

Okay, it just looks like a mask I have, a SEAPRO named ANGEL I think and it is not really a low-volume mask, but…. I don’t know. The skirt right under the nose is very narrow and therefore it doesn’t fit me so well too!

Dose not look like a low volume mask????
Yes, it is. As I wrote, it has inner volume of 137 ml, which is just a bit more than for example Sphera. I did not measure to verify it, but I trust it is the case - I was quite amazed and shocked when I saw it for the first time, how slim it was and in the same time how huge field of vision it offered. The experience is amazing - such a big screen and so close to the face, that it almost feels like if you had no mask at all.

BTW, it sealed perfectly, although I wear a mustache and was testing it in vawes of 1.4m

Would you say that it fits medium to wide faces?

What other masks fit you well, so we can get an idea for how this one will work on ppl.

Is the silicone soft and does it leave a mask mark?

Thanks!

Tuboludo, nothing fits your face!! Have you tried any masks from the O.ME.R. line besides the Zero 3? Everyone (including me) seems to love the O.ME.R. line of masks and gear.

I found one of these in the wild! A young kid that plays UWR with us had the exaxt mask!

I tried it on tonight... back to back with my Mystic and a Micromask...

The Maxlux fits a bit wider than the other two and fits a medium width face well.
The skirt is not as soft as the mystic and more soft than the micromask.

Peripheral vision on the Mystic and Micromask is very similar for me...
The Beauchat Maxlux has better peripheral vision... mainly the 3 and 9 o'clock positions.

Great mask for underwater sports. The nose "pocket" is a bit "triangulated" and has lots of room... but its not as soft as mystic.

I personally don't like the triangulated nose pockets, as it adds too much structure to it and can lead to leaks when squeezed in some cases... and the hand slips off easier. I have a small nose and like the mystic nose pocket and fit well in a superocchio.

All faces are different... YMMV.

Thursday I went on my first dive with the Aqualung Micromask, but I also brought along with me the "Superocchio" that I bought together with the Aqualung Micromask. Mind you the video below is only about the Micromask, I haven’t made a video review of the "Superocchio".

I think the fit of the "Superocchio" Is not bad and it has a nice design IMO and is probably the most famous mask in the world because of its part of THE BIG BLUE.

That said, testing it after testing the Micromask, it is pretty obvious that evolution is also moving within diving masks. The visibility of the "Superocchio" is very, very bad compared with the Micromask and it doesn’t feel as comfortable either. And to call it a low-volume mask it an overstatement these days where some “normal” “regular” mask actually has a lower volume than the "Superocchio" IMHO !!!

I like Cressi products (my favorite spear gun at the moment is a Cressi spear gun), but if you buy the "Superocchio" it should be because you like antique things and that you want it on display in your living room. Using it for serious free-diving/hunting is a big letdown compared with modern masks!!!

Agree with the comments on the superocchio especially on visibility. It was my first mask and while it's not bad (fit was decent for me too) as soon as I started using the sphera and micromask I realised how limited the peripheral vision was on the superocchio.

Maybe the effect was accentuated by the fact that I also moved from black to clear mask skirts but still...

No, the color of the skirt can not affect visibility. Only the amount of light reflecting within your diving mask. My lovely IST Presto that I have mentioned many times before has a clear skirt as well as small side-glasses so you can sense what is going on around you via your peripheral vision.

When the sun is strong from a clear sky there is so much light reflecting in all directions inside the mask that it acually makes it even more difficult for me to read what is going on in the ocean and therefore makes spear fishing more difficult, where as with a black skirt you will have less light reflecting.

On the other hand, when the weather is bad, the sky is clouded, the extra light penetrating through the clear skirt helps your eyes to catch sight of what is going on below the surface. So that said, I will get myself a Micromask with clear skin too, for those days with little or no sunlight and I will be using the black skin mask that I have for days with lots of light penetrating the surface of the water!

Yes was talking about the perception of better visibility with clear skirt because of the extra light. Have you tried the sphera out of curiosity?

Yes, I have an Aqualung Sphera. Good fit. No leaks. Even doesn’t mind my beard as long as it doesn’t grow too big. But I love spear fishing and I managed to scratch my Sphera first time I used it and it seems to get more scratches every time I use it. And mine fog up if I don’t give it some spit and so it gets more and more scratched.

I only use it for free-diving where I don't need super vision to find for example camouflage fish in hiding in the sand on the bottom of the ocean.

In fact I am surprised that I didn’t think of trying the Micromask long before I read you guys’ opinion about it in this forum since it is also from Aqualung… but as the saying goes, this is now history :duh

PS, As a matter of a fact I just ordered a new Sphera (yeah, I know, another damn mask in my collection) that I will try not to scratch up too fast :D Nothing last forever, though!

Tubolud, you can get the Aqualung Falco. It is the glass lensed version of the sphera. I beleive they have the same skirt so the fit is probably the same.

Yes, I have been thinking the same think. Got a Micromask three weeks ago and have been diving with it three times. It's a great mask all though I need to shave my self when I wanna use it :girlie

One problem though, my spear gun aim has gone OFF with the Micromask, but maybe I just got to get used to the small distortion the mask makes.

Anyways, I still wonder where I can buy the Falcon??? maybe Scuba stor will get it again in the future if it is still in production, but I don't think it is going to have the same fantastic field of view like the Micromask!

Tuboludo, I think it's your lucky day if you want a falco because scuba store sells them! Only in the black/blue frame. But it still has a black skirt. Looks like a real nice mask and not to heavy on the old pocket book. Just google search aqualung falco. Then it will say scuba store.Click on that.
