D-Weight Mould

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.

A "rubber ninja" spearo wetsuit, speargun & dive knife strapped on your leg/arm probably wouldn't help ease concerns any:martial.
 
I tried bullet weights and went to H weights because of the flat spots on the back.I have no source locally for d weights and do most diving in a 3 mil.I also have very little insulation between my skin and bones so I stick with h weights.I was thinking of making a d weight mold but have not found the parts to do it.You could get some machined out of aluminum.
 
I made my own weights with a mould I made from wood, they were however regular weights but it works fine, use as hard a wood as possible and make sure it´s dry or it will bubble and ruin the weight, use pieces of wood for the belt holes.

and just in case remember safety, lboiling ead is hot and will explode if water is poured onto it.
 
I don't like those sharp edged weights, they can get dangerous if/when they are dropped.
I got a lovely weight from Spain 2 years ago which was perfect ,I am not sure if I posted the pics or not.
It was a rounded D, but as Bill Mc says , the shipping costs killed the idea of a belt.
 
I just got an email from a guy who I contacted a while back that makes moulds for dive weights & sometimes sells them on ebay. After some prompting, he has finally finished making a D-weight mould that looks darn near perfect (for my belt anyway). He sent an image (each mould makes 2 weights) -- looks pretty cool. I am awaiting his permission to post fuller details.
 
Here is the the mould info. Apparently Leo (eBay seller: lpojibwa) has a mould for sale on eBay at the moment (he lists regularly though):

I have a two cavity mould for a weight that was suggested to me. I have been calling it an "ALLAN" weight after the name of the fellow that pushed me to produce it. After remembering that one of your DeeperBlue members introduced me to it about a year ago, I have decided to rename it to the "ALLTON" weight. This gives consideration to Tony, the DeepBlue member. I sell these moulds for $32 U.S. Each mould includes two inserts. Additional inserts are available for $3.50 each. Items may be paid for through PayPal. However, I would prefer payment in Canadian funds. If anyone is interested, please E-Mail me (logicdesign@rogers.com) and I can send an invoice in Canadian funds. Shipping and handling by surface parcel post to the U.K. and Europe is $15.50 U.S. By air, it is $31.50. (S&H rate as of date of posting - June, 2006)

I am the ALLTON (i.e. D-Weight) mould guy.
Since I first posted the information regarding my mould with the prices, I have been hit with a substantial price increase (like everything else). Therefore, if you are interested, please E-Mail me at logicdesign@rogers.com for a current quote.
I have additional news. I am very close to having an up dated version of my ALLTON weight. It should be available by mid March 2008. I call it the ALLTON 'D'. The regular ALLTON weighed 20 oz (i.e. 575 gm) and the new one will weigh 1 kilo. The ALLTON 'D' mould will be open back as opposed to the two piece mould for the ALLTON. This will make pouring easier and faster.
The mould will only have one cavity, but because of the open style, you will be able to pour more weight in a shorter time.
The ALLTON 'D' mould will utilize the same insert as the regular two piece ALLTON, so those with the latter that wish to obtain the new style, will already have a supply of inserts. I am sure everyone that I convinced to purchase additional inserts will appreciate that.
The ALLTON 'D' will have a flat back but the front will have nothing but round corners. It will be slightly longer, about the same width, but a little thicker.
The only thing I have available to show at the moment would be the plastic model. However, if you would like to see a photo of what I have so far, drop me a note at < logicdesign@rogers.com >. I would be more than pleased to send you one.

Sounds interesting Leo, I still plan to get one(/2?). I think I will go for the same size as the RA ones (need to check what that was now), as that allow fines tuning of weight & snug fit. If you tap the back with a hammer, it locks them onto your (rubber marseille) belt. I'm using larger weights currently and that has some advantages too. Will the new ones look a little like the D-profile weights in the image I posted a page or two back?

The photo of the 'D' weight that I believe you are referring to shows a weight in a shape much the same as that of an airfoil. My new weight is nothing like that. you can request a spec sheet by E-Mailing me directly at logicdesign@rogers.com
The photo on the left below is of the plastic mock-up and shows the mould parts, the mould assembled and the finished product. The photo on the right shows an actual aluminum mould with insert, retainer and finished weight.
BTW Another use would be to cast solid ingots, without the belt slot. The weight can then be used in weight pockets. Tell me that is the way you want it and I will adjust the retainer to accommodate that application.

Yes, that's me. The image is clear. Act. the new size might make more sense for me, as I carry 20lb of lead & probably could use a little more - so maybe 10 of the new size weights.
