D-Weight Mould

Hi 'X'
Regarding the 1 kilo ALLTON 'D'; I will post when the new mould is ready.
I have someting else on the plate. It is a mould for a lead bead that when strung together using an elastic material, forms an ankle weight. I call it a TROY weight, again, after the name of the fellow that I designed it for. I doubt if freedivers would find it useful but who knows. It will weigh 120 gm with the hole and probably 150 gm without. They might find a place in the weight pockets of BC's.

Interesting. Yes some of the spearos use ankle weights, sometimes made from strips of sheet lead. It helps you lay on flat & hidden in weed, especially in shallow water, where more weight is needed. I thought I needed some when I got my present wetsuit but I got used to it after a while, although last time couple of times out it would have been useful (perhaps it is something to do with the colder temperatures). 4-5oz is quite large, I wonder if elastic bungee will be strong enough to hold several in place ... I guess fins would prevent it coming off & thicker bungee could be used. Might be useful as a sea fishing weight too (perhaps with a smaller hole or wire insert).

The ALLTON 'D' is ready (see posting #39) and so is the mould for the beads. The bead mould can be used in many ways and I will machine it any way you want. the attached picture shows many of the different weights that you can get from it. Beads for ankle weights, balls for pocket weights and even fishing sinkers. If the hole into the cavity is not drilled out, you can even pour half weights that look like buttons that can include the centre hole or left solid. The size of the hole can be any size. I am trying to limit it to just a few sizes; 1/4", 3/8" or 1/2". However, those are just the sizes I am geared up for. Everything is up to the buyer. It all depends on how the cavities are finished. However, once the mould is finished for a particular application, you can't put things back and apply it another way.

Just a tip if you are getting ankle weights size them instead to fit just below the knee.
It makes finning much easier.

Good tip Huan!

I have one of the d-weight moulds shown above and enough lead to make about 40 weights. If any one is interested in the UK I could sell them a belts worth. PM me if your interested!
