Dannish documentary with Stig

I saw an intro video for this documentary a while ago. It looked very nice.

It was sent on Danish TV1 (DR1) in January. 4 shows of 30 min... Very nice!

Do you know if they (DR1) have it anywhere available on the net? Or did someone record it? That trailer looks very promising.

Yes that was a bold move of the danish television to put a small extreme sport on prime time during totally two hours. The target group was realy everybody and usually in a case like that the apnea sport is protrayed with a lack of nuances and focused on its extreemes (and some errors included).
But the director actually did something that was intriguing for both hard core freedivers and for aunts, mums and dads. Lots of lovely places visited; red sea, mediterranean, Thailand, Hawaii, Venezuela. Carlos Coste could be seen and also Anabel and Bill (USA).
Most fun of all was to see Stig visit a funny yogi in India and seeing Stig doing morning warm up with his grandma.

I've always liked Stig. His 166m DNF video inspired my on many occasions to get back in gear with my training. Chris I may contact you about trying to get a copy of thoes DVDs.

In addition, Those pictures of him in Egypt are priceless.

I don't like putting the series on the web, even in reduced quality, it's copyrighted material and stuff. That said, I don't mind taking my TV recordings and copying them to a couple of DVD's (will make them Region Zero), sending them to people. I don't know if that links up, exactly, but I'll look into the 'production costs' of a few cheap copies, and then you can bank transfer me a couple of pennies after which I send the thing to you. Pop me a Personal Message, if you're interested.

As for the Danish language...well, a couple of years back I got a whole VHS tape with various Belgium TV specials about freediving, just someone's personal recordings. Most of it is in Flamish or French, and I still get a lot out of it. Plus, there is a HE-HE-HE-HE-HECK of a lot of blue in the Stig documentary.

Stig gave me 3 DVD's in Monaco, but none of them will play in my DVD player. How are they supposed to be played?

Stig sent me a copy (2 DVD's) which have worked fine on my iBook. I'm the guy assisting Stig in static apnea when he comes to Santa Teresa!
I don't understand any Danish, but you get the gist of it, and some of the dialogue is in English anyway.

Is your DVD player Region free? The dvd might be European Region 2, and your player might only play American Region 1, you never know.
And again, it's possible that Stig's DVD's have some error on 'em, I don't know...

If you have a DVD drive in your computer there are many programs (also freeware I think) that turn most drives into region free. I might have one if you need.

I've found oftentimes dvds that won't play on my dvd player do fine on my laptop or pc. If not you can rip them to the hard drive clean up the region code - if thats the problem - and play them with powerdvd - in fact most newer dvd software will play from the drive. There are one or two other things that can go wrong but are also easy to fix. Odds are they'll just work on a pc though. I can provide recipes if needed.

Best bet then is probably to test them out on a pc with a dvd then maybe drop a dvd drive in your pc (around $24us). Depending on how badly you want to watch them that is.

There are 3 possible reasons the DVD's are not playing.

1) DVD were encoded for PAL and your DVD player is NTSC (or visa versa).

2) DVD has a "region" designator that is different from your DVD player.

3) DVD was burned on DVD +-R, and you your DVD player has problems reading them (I found that Sony and JVC players are among the worse in playing DVD -+R -+RW).


1 - can be remedied by ripping the DVD and then reburning it in to region free DVD.

2 - can be remedied by ripping the DVD and reencoding it in to proper format.

3 - well, you are looking at buying a diff. DVD player. I found that the cheapest players are usually the least picky about the media you throw at them.

I have received the DVD today. First many thanks and congrats to you Chris for making such a professional cover and everything, i was really impressed.

The material on the dvd is first class too, I recommend it to every freediver. Such beatiful images, freediving adventures and all that with a a man who is a practically freediving legend - Stig, is just awesome to watch.
