How many people has actualy died while training or competing or setting records in freediving.

I am not talking about skindivers, spearfishers, snorklers. Only about people who compete and train to compete.

I know about Audrey of course. Someone got somewhat paralyzed after a No limit attempt is that not so? I have also heard that some scubadivers have died during Pipins records - true?

Please help me out here.

Many people have died in swimming pools doing static apnea.

Concerning deaths in the ocean, I know of only Cyril Isoardi who died during a no-limits training dive around 1998-99, without safety divers (probable lift bag failure?) Otherwise, Audrey. Benjamin Franz had a huge stroke and was unable to speak, after getting DCS on a no-limits dive. Stefano Makula blacked out at 100m on a no-limits dive but his safety divers saved him and he fully recovered.

I think there may have been ocean deaths in the late 80's, early 90's, after the Big Blue got people trying no-limits in their 'backyard', but I don't know any stats.

French divers Eric Charrier and Jacques Mayol both committed suicide by hanging themselves.

Most deaths I've heard of are in swimming pools.
