I will find out matt, do you want to come to Herm on Saturday night. it will cost about £25 for the boat & meal?

Thats OK mate its just to get numbers, we will see you at the comps though & you are welcome to the fish feast on Sunday after the weigh in at my house.

I already registered, but I still don't know if I will be able to make it for sure; if we put in a second lot of lambs they'll be due around then so I'll most likely be needed around the farm. Would it be easier for admin if I just pulled out this year? Sorry for being a hassle!!

How does that sound?

Excellent - cant wait :)

Hopefully there will be enough time to visit Herme on the Sat. Sun will be an early finish for me as the plane leaves around 4.15. Are there any plans for Fri. p.m?

Cheers

Grant

Grant, I have not made any plans for Friday but once we have established how many folk are combing over, I will see whats on in Guernsey that night.
We have an open air Thia restaurant if the weather is fair, there is a free night of entertainment at the big castle in St Peter Port, including food stales & 5-6 good music bands.
There are several live music bars, one is right by your hotel!
We have lots of top restaurants to but if the weather in really nice & we have caught lots of fish that day we can possibly cook them on the beach or at my place.

Nice one Martyn, So far we have 4 travelling from Jersey and we are really looking fwd to it. It will be great to meet up with some of the names weve read on DB, the more the merrier. The specimen hunt sounds good. A bit of light hearted, friendly competition will go down well with us. Last years mini fish was great fun. Hospitaly was fab. Also Gnsy has some fantastic diving spots with plenty of fish. Fingers crossed for good weather, great diving and a beer or three.

Sounds great Mart, it'll be a fantastic weekend thanks to all your efforts I'm sure.

Mart n Jonny,

I'm booking my van onto the ferry for Tue 31st July 14:30 arr. Guernsey 17:35 eeeeekkkk! pricy do!

Staying the week

Returning (unfortunately!! work!) Sun 05th Aug 21:45 - arr UK 00:45

I will be driving from Darlington to Poole and back so any northern monkeys (or ferry foot passengers) wanting a lift either way let me know. I will have 3 rear seats and 1 front seat spare and plenty of room for gear.

I know I'm probably going earlier than anyone wants to but the return journey may suit those that don't want to pay for a car but go on the ferry.

Mart and Jonny. Van can be used for shuttling if you need it and go steady on me johny I'm not that fit at the minute and want to last the week!!:duh:yack

hmmmmmmmm! fishys! :p

Count me in for Herm too!

LOL ! Your idea of not that fit will leave most of us dead in the water :)
It looks like i get back from the UK the day before you come over mate, so keep in touch and we'll find somewhere to get some dives...

How about this....
Specimen hunt competition

The objective is to catch as many different species from the specified list over a two day period.

The overall winner will be the diver who has caught the most number of different species.

In the event of a tie, the the divers total combined weight over the two days will be judged to decide the winner.

Specimen weight competition

The objective is to catch a specified fish as close to a set weight as possible.

The fish will be mullet - target weight 2lb 4oz. Bass - target weight 3lb 2oz.

So there will be three prizes - most species caught, bass nearest 3lb 2oz & mullet nearest 2lb 4oz

What do you guys think? .. Please be honest!

Hi Martyn,

Re fish in, can't wait!

Since u have invited honest feed back about the latest suggested rules, I think your original plan A (post 138) was best. That was the two day specimen hunt, setting target weights for included species, and also, importantly, included recognition for the biggest fish. It is only for fun, and like u say, we don't want a comp where only deep divers can win, but as we all know, you don't have to dive at all to catch some really good fish. Its often the novice hunting in the shallows that finds a whopper!
Also, you can't get away from the fact that most divers (but not all) usually hunt to try and catch the biggest fish. I certainly do.
So, I think that plan A, would cater better for divers of all abilities/interests. Perhaps limit recognition to the main shallow water species, ie biggest bass, mullet, and flatty?

Just my pennyworth .

cheers

mike

Excellent ideas Mike, I absolutely agree. There will be a wide range of abilities there, ranging from the 30m depth experts to the intermediates to the shallows-only beginners.

But muuuuuuuuuuuuuum! I don't wanna go to bed! All my friends get to stay up late, why can't I??? You're so unfair...
