Can anyone recomend a good depth gague you can use while freediving? I would like one worn on the wrist but not so bulky as the ones used with scubadiving.

Not looking for an expensive watch with a lot of different modes, just a good depth gauge that records max depth then let's you reset it.

Thanks for any info you have. It's greatly appreciated.

Hi lockmonster,

Haven't seen anything like that for many years, I suspect they don't make'em any more. I use a standard scuba depth guage(with max depth indicator). It is fitted into a holster than goes on my wrist. Its big and clunky, but the drag isn't noticable and it gets the job done.

If you find one, let me know.

Hey - think the Suunto D3 is the simplest one / standard one. But there is a cheaper watch made by Casio I think that has a depth gauge on it. Really simple watch/depth gauge apparently.

Think that some companies still make pure depth gauges but not sure who - sorry.

Low tech. I've never used one but they're pretty cheap. $15 - $30

I hunted one of these up about three years ago when I was getting into freediving. The tube is very small, and they're a pain to read in the water. In due time I ended up going the Suunto D3 route -- plus I get lots of extra data to play with on my PC.

Even though the capillary depth gauge didn't work out, the guy who gave it to me became a good friend and regular dive buddy. So I can't complain too much!

Cheapest depth and time logging watch = Casio marine gear
Got mine off e-bay $79 brand new last year.
Logs up to 10 dives. Selectable feet or metres and (unusually) calibrated for sea water. Max depth measurement 50m (water resistant to 100m though :/)

Casios

Yes I'm seeing them for about $80 new here and there - comparable to the less capable swatch in price.

Capillary guages are hard to read - I've used them too. Also wonder about accuracy - air bubbles etc. Cheap though

Guages at scubastore

quite a few under the 'loose instruments' category. After shipping their close to the casio marine watch in price though.
