Well as the title suggests what are the pros and cons of these 2 companies.

Heading over middle of next year with the girlfriend and trying to work out who is best to go with.

Me personally i want to get some DEEP diving in (well for me at least anyway) with the sneaky chance of a 50m Pb filling my head?

but my partner is only quite new to freediving so she'll want to explore a bit as well.

the 6 day desert camel freediving safari thing looks pretty good and would be a good comprimise between what i want and what she wants, then spend maybe another 4 or 5 days after words diving and relaxing.

or do i go with freedive Dahab and for 4 days of focused diving then explore on our own after words?

any opinions of people who have delt with these companies... or any other company for that matter would be hugely appreciated.

Hi DD I also want to go to dahab don't know for how long I will head there november cauz it will be the freediving week at apnea academy and if you want deep diving there is no better option ok ok ok besided than comparing these 2 I would rather seeing what suits your situation, you have girlfriend right? she's a beginner and beginners don't love freediving to the bone because they still didn't not discover it right?could you imagine the face your soulmate if you plan right ahead a vacation with only fridykning?

Dessert divers ha a lot of cheap packages for freediving, rock climbing (FDdahab also has it),camel safari, I'm not quite sure but I think dessert divers has boat for dives, etc., it has also yoga sessions on beautiful places, and it has also scubaaa option I'm going there to take my divemaster

besides this I'm gonna be there :) and most likely we will find more DB crew

good luck with your trip ;)

I don't know about the Desert guys, but Freedivedahab must be a funky experience too: Linda, Lotta and their mates sound like a really cool lot of funny people if you read Linda's blog (and don't forget that she's the deepest italian woman ever, a true serious freediver. And don't forget that she is - was? - looking for a husband :inlove).

I have heard recomendations for Linda and Lotta also. Who runs Desert Divers?

There is one serious risk with Linda and Lotta, though: you either finish as husband or a slave. More likely both in the same time. The only other alternative is getting the Chicken Badge and landing in the Useless Freedivers group.

of course that what ever u will go you have one non negociable condition write a review about your trip ;)

spago and trux: unfortunately i'm not looking for a husband anymore, and our slavery schedule is busy for all 2010...yes, life is getting boring:)

as for the original topic, of course i'm not going to recommend myself and my company; the people that come diving with us must all be crazy (otherwise we charge them extra:)

I would not touch DD with a long spear, they are unprofessional and I have personally had a bad experience with them. All their rental equipment is in bad shape and the management sucks. I went out to Dahab last year to do my DM and was all lined up to go with DD but after seeing how the place was run I quickly changed my mind and got an 'education' and a DM certification with another centre, there are so many good dive centres in Dahab and DD is most definatley not one of them! As for freediving then please go and see Linda and Lotta, they are the best and you are guarenteed a very good time. FD is the place to meet other freedivers and get in with the freedive crowd. The freediving crowd in Dahab no longer has anything to do with DD.

I hired a bike at DD once. The seat fell off, I think that says enough...

hmmm benny you sure you didnt loosen the seat on purpose.....

:) hehehehehehe

your fins are 400km closer! on my way down the coast.

yep i think i'm gonna go and brave Linda and Lotta for 10 days maybe try an fins some other cool none diving stuff to keep the girlfriend happy! Trullalla get ready to be stuck with a Dane from australia for a while next year!

shame about desert divers their Camel diving trip sounded like fun. trullalla any chance you have something similar we can do to combine some recreational freediving (photos etc) with some coold site seeing or anything/

Also I can recommend to go two weeks instead of one. Because you'll need the time to recover from the trip, adapt to Egypt and depth, and learn depth at your own pace. The extra cost for two weeks is not much, but the experience will be much more relaxing and deeper.

Ending up as husband or a slave are nothing compared to being bitten by the rabies infected little monster running around and yelp all the time!

But the freediving at Freedive Dahab is first class.

If you´re going two weeks,.... why not visit Sharm and Apnea Academy as well?

bill, don't you dare speaking bad about my precious little creature. and for your information, she's only yelping at ugly and horrible people.
besides, she's very intelligent, and she's a witty writer, as you can see here:

I tested and liked that combination: 1 week in Sharm with Apnea Academy, 1 week in Dahab with Freediving Dahab. Both very good for freediving (training and recreational). Dahad is a relaxing place as an Egyptian place.

If somebody is going to Sharm, then Dahab (Blue Hole etc.) is really, really worth visiting for some days or a week. There are camels in Dahab and Sharm, that's really not a problem. A camel safari was a good experience.

which of those 2 apnea academy and FD stays near the busy turist area and with night life? I would like to party at night also :D

I have the packs his just to book the tickets now :)

Sharm (Apnea A) is much bigger with a lot of tourists, so much more noise and night life...
In Dahab there are many nice restaurants at the coast line to have a dinner, but not much night life.
Sharm is more a tourist place, Dahab is a relaxing diving place.

Sharm went past tourism, it was one of my favourite places a long while back. Its hassle now but you can still avoid it to a certain extent.

Having said that go to both, id do the aa first then dahab.

Sharm is most definitely the party town and bares no resemblance to Egypt at all, you could well be in any big tourist destination in the world. But that said the AA is well worth a visit, they do get some big palegics just off the reef top there, mantas, oceanic white tip etc. if you are lucky :) There will be lots more for your girlfriend to do while you are training too.

Dahab is quiet compared to Sharm but I can recommend the following places to go at night for some life: Red Sea Relax bar- quiz nights, good music and company or there is Rush - not cheap but good bar. Most evenings are spent talking to other freedivers that you will more than likely meet through FD.

I am sure you will have fun in both towns, each have their own merits. Hope you have a great holiday.
