Any recommendations on finding a watch which will monitor heart rate and still be waterproof? I saw some Casio's which are pretty good watches and I could use the stopwatch feature, but they dont do the HR monitor. FitBits are nice, but are not waterproof according to them

Polar are the big HR brand, perhaps they offer something suitable for divers, perhaps aimed at swimmers or triathletes?

I have the Garmin Descent Mk1 and it’s fantastic but it is pricey...not sure what your budget is, that would help.

Sadly less than $100. I have seen this may be well-nigh impossible, but that's how much I can spend at this time

Incidentally, where in the world do you freedive in Colorado??

Just a heads up. I’ve got a Suunto Mosquito that I’ve had for 20yrs. The only difference between it and the new D4 is the casement. It’s an awesome watch and does everything. Maybe keep an eye out for a second hand one. Pun intended.

You could check out some of the Chinese offerings on sites like GearBest. They offer a raft of smart watches with a bewildering range of functions, the only problem is finding a true depth rated watch. The Chinese brand "Sunroad" make a lot of sports watches which are not much different to the Casio models, but many have miserable depth ratings unlike the equivalent Casio models. "Sunroad" do make a true dive watch, but with a matching high price!

Garmin MK1 - Wrist sensor (the best watch in my opinion - freediving/ scuba)
Scubapro M1 or Scubapro M2 - Chest strap sensor (freediving / scuba).
Omer UP-X1 or Omer Omer UP-X1R - Chest strap sensor (freediving)

One important aspect to take into consideration is the SAMPLING rate. Many budget fitness trackers will have a sampling rate of 1 minute - which is not suitable for freediving.
