I am going to Dubai for a long weekend... anyone know of any dive spots? :wave

Island_sands,

Go here for some good information http://www.emiratesdiving.com/

The "sites" link off the main has an excellent list with location and depth of interesting sites. I would definitely contact DCs located in Dubai on the list via email and try to line up something in advance (or one of the dubai-based divers on this forum) since with the ending of EID, things are all just getting back to normal (assuming you will be headed our way in the near future!)

If you head towards Qatar, let me know and I can line up something at one of the supertanker wrecks. It won't be the Maldives but it will be ok :)

BTW do you have another email addy for Francesca besides the asf one??? I am getting email failures.

Anton

hi Island_Sands

Welcome to Dubai.... been diving here for 3 years now.... been to just about every dive location there is.

UAE is split to 2 main coast lines, the west coast and the east coast.

The west coast is basically all SAND.... so as you can imagine vis is terrible and not much marine life. All dive sites are wrecks! deapth is generally 7-23m

The east coast is a totally different story, Its all mountains that drop into the sea, The east coats has the gulf of oman, that is an extension of the indian ocean. there are lovely islands and dive sites to visit.

If you really want the best divesites in the entire region, then you will have to go up north, an area called Musandam. They compare the mountains there to those of newzeland. the waters are deap and rich.

you can get some info from www.musandamdiving.com

The only draw back is that this area is well known for its currents, they tend to reach up to 7-10 kts at times.

I personally do all my diving up there, you get huge pallagic fish siwimming by the drop offs (drops to 60-80m) GT's up to 40kg, King Fish up to 1.5m length, Sailfish, Tuna, ect .... This is area is really wild and unspoiled!

Happy diving ;)
