Hello all,

My buddy recently acquired his diving cert and will be moving to his new duty station in yokosuka, japan just south of yokohama and tokyo. How far will he have to travel to get to some decent diving and or spearfishing? we were both stationed there back in the late 90's and know the area fairly well, however back then we weren't spearos yet. I'm guessing he'll have to atleast get down to sagami wan? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Damian

Hello,
I am living in Chiba, the other side of the bay from Yokohama. You should be able to dive in areas like Izu peninsula/islands, Kanagawa, and Chiba. You will need transport to get around. You have to watch spearing in the Izu islands guns are illegal but poles are OK.
I have dived near Hayama, but no spearing, as it is a national park.

No problem. If or when you get to yokosuka and you want to meet up get in contact.
Cheers

hey I spear around Chiba too sometimes, and also you can go to Miyake Jima and other islands south of Tokyo pretty easily from where you are.

Adon, where did you hear that about Hayama?

Hi Guy,
Hayama is actually a national park. The area around the Tori. We are normally in at the marina so it is a bit far. Did head out towards the tori and were stopped by fishermen. That's when found out that it is a National park.
By the way Jamie is up today and will head back after Miyake.
Cheers,
H
