DIY BAMBOO

Has anyone ever tried a DIY bamboo pole spear? Been doing a little bushcraft reading and was thinking of making one for myself?

Anyone ever try it successfully? Any tips would be cool too.

the hardest thing i found was getting the bamboo really strait you can heat bend it but with a 2m price it will never be perfect and it will distort ever time you use it. good little project if you have the patience

Well patience and time I do have, just need to figure out how to attach a tip, I really don't know that carving the bamboo would work well

Well it looks like boredom is getting the best of me and I'll be at the store tomorrow buying bamboo stakes

make a wrap nylon twine tightly around the first growth on the thin end. then split it lengthways in half half and half working round in thirds so you end up with 6 prongs (the nylon should stop the slit running down the pole), slip sticks down each half and lash them tight this will splay them, then sharpen each prong and thats that that you have a primitive pole spear

Is it possible to do this with a preserved bamboo? Like a dry bamboo stake?
