DIY carbon shoes for your DOL-Fin X-20 or Lunocet!?

I'm currently following the Giro d'Italia cycling race and one of the commentators mentioned a competitor - Adam Hansen - who makes his own cycling shoes.

As there are quite a few DIY types hanging around on deeperblue I'd thought I mention it as something similar may work very well for the guys who require shoes to fit monofins like the DOL-Fin X-20 or Lunocet.

Is it just me, or are there 3 swastikas in that photo's background?

Other than that, I think carbon shoes have a future in freediving, though there needs to be a good transmission and connection system so these freediving shoes can be used with foils, flukes, fin and bi fins. Having a good fitting, but not squeezing, durable footpocket would be like a custom wetsuit.

Very, very interesting. I'm playing with epoxy and fibre glass time to time. Now I need to try this with my Luno! The problem is that I have way too many projects going on..

Funny that you've mentioned it. I was fixing my surfboard a couple of months back. Now I have a lot of fibreglass and resin around, and I quite liked working with it... The idea of customized footpockets also crossed my mind, but I just don't have enough time for that [emoji16]

I'd love to make a pair, with the foot and toes slightly pointed downward instead of neutral. While neutral is optimum for cycling and pushing down with the ball of the foot, it makes it harder to keep your knees straight. Foot, ankle and knee are "wired" to move together-point toes and ankles/knees want to also. Pull them up and knee wants to bend-asking the knee to be straight while the foot is pulled up but ankle straight is really a bit awkward biomechanically/neurologically.

@neurodoc - I've been thinking the same.. Also what would be most effective position for toes? While doing a dolphin kick without a fin, I have a feeling that my toes want to move too. With a Luno (and shoes), in one direction I have urge to press toes against sole, and going back I'm lifting the toes against shoe cover.

Either I have hyperactive and restless toes, or this is kind of learned behaviour from the past (dolphin kick).

Let's assume I would use my feet as a mould when making a pair. How should I position my feet? Obviously not standing
Lying on my belly, feet on a pillow or similar - just leave toes relax or force 'em slightly against to-be-sole?
