DIY Spearo Sit-On Canoe

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Attached is my first stab at a Sit on top Spearo boat. It is very preliminary. What I have mainly worked on at this stage is the stability and bouyancy envelope, and so have worked out the basic dimensions of what I feel would be the bare minimum size for a Spearo boat. Also, I do not like the transom at this stage. It needs to be reworked to have more of a canoe stern as low speed resistance is badly affected by this type of transom. I have various ideas for a layout and seat assembly, but have not shown this yet, merely indicating where the paddler will go. So far, construction is intended for stitch and glue ply for ease of home build with typical diy tools. It is fairly wide and flat, so she should double as a good surf boat too!

Let me know what you think
Cheers

iv'e got acess to large sheets of polystyrene 3.6 by 1.2 by 50mm these glue together easily does any one know if epoxy resin melts this, i know polyester doesn't work

You can use epoxy on polystyrene but polyurethane foam is much easier to shape.

i paddle surf ski's competitively and something like that but with storage would be amazing i dont think you would need carbon or kevlar but if you want it under 40 pounds it will have to be pretty bare bones no fancy hatches just simple mabey some depressions with straps on top if the foam is inside the boat it will weigh a ton just keep that in mind

Hi guys I dont know if anyones seen this but may be worth a look its plans for a ply stitch and tape sit on top (scroll down to the bottom of the page) I have built boats from plans from here before and they have all been well detailed and easy to follow. This one happens to be quite expensive though but might be useful for ideas
cheers
