Dorset 2016

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 90 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I went out last weekend around Poole/Studland/Old Harry to test the boat and tune my bouyancy with the new wetsuit.

Boat = great and gives that extra confidence over a shore dive.
Suit = nice and toasty but at 5.5mm (and my additional weight) I need a lot of lead...

The water was pretty clear, better than I expected. Training bank vis was not great despite being on a neap tide although it does look promising for future dives. Old harry vis inside was good about 3-4 meters. Studland vis was about the same depending on where you go. For those going to the Southsea club meet and going for a dive prior to the soirée it looks promising, especially as we head to spring tides (hopefully) bringing in clearer water.

Now, just 6 weeks to wait until I can bag a bass :)

Interested to see how you get on in the poole area this season. By the way, I make it 10 weeks until bass season.

I am normally being swept through the solent while doing CNF diving, there is no Hampshire thread which I can understand, it would be full of bad viz reports, and neck injuries from hitting the sea floor head first :D So I keep tabs on this one and the West Sussex thread when its running, I fish and surf the witterings and local area, weather depending............ obviously!!

I don't remember when it was last time I saw clear water in the Solent. 2 or 3 years ago? Living in Fareham I can check the quality of water pretty often - its only 3 miles drive from my place to Lee-on-the Solent. And I do but with no luck so I have to drive 65 to 70 miles to Dorset coast to find diveable waters.
By the way, I'm going tonight to Swanage to try to catch some flatties and crabs and lobsters. Its last moment for east side of Purback - wind's directions are changing. Tomorrow Studland and Swanage Bays would be affected by blows from East. Anybody interested to join me? 07783931183

My first fish of 2016 season from British waters. Lulworth Cove, Friday night, 7-8 May. My friend got 7 flounders and one lobster. Vis was up to 5m and temperature 11 deg. Celsius.

Is there a spearfishing store in/near Dorset these days (e.g. a dive store with spearo gear)? Need a Medium size/size 3 spearo wetsuit for somebody.

Took a dip on Sunday to a sheltered bay. Viz looked fair from the cliff top, but was actually only 2-3m at best. Long swim and a decent effort searching all depths and terrain resulted in a blank! Very quiet all round and a fair amount of snotty bloom still hanging about. :-(

yeah seen that, going to take the rib and start in Lulworth and keep going west until I get some vis. I may not even get wet looing at the wind direction/strength.
