The fleet is a good place to dive when the more exposed spots are hit by high winds and swell, viz can still be poor but better than the exposed areas. IMO the harbour is far better with better viz and more fish. If the wind is from the south or east quadrant I dive the breakwaters at castle town and if from the west quadrant I Dive from sansfoot castle to Nothe fort.

Was thinking of giving the inner reefs along eype a go when it clears. I'll give you a shout if I get away this weekend mate.

Next season I hope "Fish of the Month" continues, but how about a new competition to run along side it called "Kitchen in the Background of the Month"!!!

Where is the best viz going to be this weekend? It looks like it's going to be sunny and warm but with a strong Easterly wind. So I was thinking about heading to the West side of Portland where it should be more sheltered. What do you reckon?

There is a big swell coming into Chesil Cove at the moment and it doesn't look very good at all

Water in the cove was brown tonight - managed two bass on the rods though, a bit on the small side so they went back to grow a bit (or get snagged in gill nets, scooped up by commercial anglers or caught again by the numpty who set up less than 8 metres from me!!)

Hi Lee,
I have just bought a small boat (very small - it's a little 7ft rowing boat, at least until I buy an outboard) and am looking for some people to go freediving and spearfishing from it. I live near Crewkerne, so mostly dive around Eype, Seatown, West Bay kind of area. I keep the boat at Eype. So if you (or anybody else of course) fancy doing a bit of freediving and spearfishing some evenings and weekends just get in touch.

p.s. I notice you wrote about diving around the Fleet over the last few days and weeks. I haven't dived at all because my usual spots have all been murky and brown due to the high winds. Is the Fleet usually clear and is it a good place to dive?

Only wished you would have posted this earlier!

Went for a drive at 07.30 down the purbecks looking for vis and gave up after trying 5 spots! Just back now disheartened by the shocking vis at every spot. :head

Let's hope it cleans up a little for this weekend!

Me too, drove around to all the sheltered spots, only to be faced with grey brown waste water.

Drove all the way to North Devon in the end. Tried woolacombe, Lee bay and some spots around illfracombe to no avail. Ended up staying in wooly got my self some fantastic waves over the weekend nice 5 foot faces on sat and a nice 2-3ft on sunday.

Also picked up a nice little small eyed ray of around 4lb,,,,but was using a rod and line over low tide at 2am.

Ordered a new wetty today cressi tecnica from O three; any good???

Perhaps he had the dreaded "Pink" harpoon in his hands and was indeed wearing a special rubber suit yet of a non aquatic origin and had got lost from a special meeting place known as "Flippers bar"?

Good job there aren't any CHAVS or muggers and rapists etc up there who really need sorting out.
