anyone heading out tonight? I'm thinking of heading down for high tide either at sandbanks or poole side of the purbecks if anyone fancies it, not sure how the vis is though....
Tunny sorry for the delay, been driving fast police cars all day!!!!!! Sunday morning i got in the water about 6am In the Portland Harbour area. It was very milky but the tide was almost out, Headed to abit of moving water. The swell was choppy but it had not effected the vis which was about 4m. Had shoals of 20 to 30 big Mullet some about 5 to 6lb plus i guess, then massive shoals of young Bass from 1 to 2lb in close to me but the bigger fish where keeping out of harms away. Moving left or right of the faster water the vis closed down quick, moving back to my kayak i took a shot in limited vis and lost my spear because the quick connecter swivel snapped off. So will never know if i hit the Bass or not. Hope that i did miss so didnt leave a injured fish out there!!!!!
No worries Jay, slid away from work at 12 at Yeovilton and took the drive down to Weymouth. Went in at Sandsfoot and got 3 bass all 40cm plus each one being the biggest of a 10+ bass shoal. Got in just at high tide vis was varying 2-4m and was 18-20 degrees almost like the Med! Thanks again for the reports.
Good to being seeing the fish again - had 4 dives prior to last sundays not even seeing a sliver fish! :head Do you not like Mullet then?

Chris: 100% sure it would have been a conger, but depends if it was in the sea or along the nudist stretch of the beach, then it might have been anything??!?!!

It wasn't near the nudist beach, so im guessing it was a conger then. Was surprised to see it in 3 metres of open water!!!

I'm new to this forum so hello to all ye salts. I've just brought some spearfishing kit and am keen to get started any maybe even fed. I'm casting out a hook to buddy up at least for first few sessions. Don't worry I won't drown and I'll try to make sure you don't!
I'm quite keen to go in at Ringstead so will probably go there for first few dips. If you want buddy up email me and I'll let you know when I plan to go out. Likewise if your heading out somewhere west of lulworth cove and want a buddy send me an email.

If you are interested there is a club dive, normally on Tuesday evenings. Try looking for the "Wessex Spearfishing Club 2010", nothing formal, just a group of us getting out for a fish in some of the local spots. The dive is off tonight, but some of the guys may fancy getting out anyway.
I am not sure if Ringstead will be good, because of the south westerley(plus its about a fiver to park), maybe Durleston(Swanage) or Newtons Cove(weymouth) maybe ok. Also it is always a good idea to dive with somebody as well just until you are comfortable with what you are doing.
I am not out tonight because of an ear infection, but I normally like to get out on a Tuesday evening.
