Gaz there’s a New speargun up for grabs for the biggest Mullet of the year, it’s being donated by Apnea Online over in Jersey.
Sharpen yer stick mate or Mr Reynolds is going to have it away and we’ll never hear the last of it.

2008 Solution 3/2. Unavailable in the uk I think. Got mine in Portugal. Was a bit chilly.

I can recommend Soy Mullet with Mace & Ginger, the family loved it. (There are a couple of other serving ideas on that link too).

At last, bagged a jumbo mullet; not the usual torpedo shaped one, but a fat boy!!!

Well, just got back fro Exeter and decided on a very quick swim in the harbour as the vis was petty poor. Started out from castle town and with no fish seen I got out promptly with a few morsels from the bottom.
Jumped in for literally 5 mins at another spot in the harbour; vis was just about 1 meter! and in 4ft of water I could almost see the bottom. So I turned around and went to get back out. I swam straight over this big boy, it was just sat on the bottom and barley visible. Shot it from above just behind the head and out through the gills. It went mental! I knew it was big as it had a huge girth, way fatter than other big mullet.
Anyhow got out and weighed on some crappy spring scales it went somewhere between 7-8lb. I spoke to Spearo nobby; who promptly reminded me that a 7lb mullet was not to be missed out on like my SOLE!.
Got a newspaper on the way home and weighed it with my daughter on some digital scales. It went 8lb 1oz and 8lb 30z, think I was still shaking,,so I'll call it 8lb 1oz.

LOL, I woke her up when I got back just to show her; she loves mullet. Although I shot it through or near the head it went mental! I let go of my spear and followed my float for about 30 yards with the fish leaping out the water like a marlin (spear attached). Once it stopped I followed my line down to the fish and bear hugged it then used a rock to hammer the stringer through it.
Hi, can anyone please advise on how I make this 'official' for the mullet competion as I would hate to miss out on another fish. I guess I just post it up as I have and the mods will sort it at their end?
Roll on the weekend I'll try and bag myself another!
Where do I find all the comps? i.e. biggest mullet, sole, bass etc...and the rules.

Hi All,
New on here so not sure if this is where to introduce but, having read recent threads ref surfing giving way to spearfishing it struck a chord with me having surfed for many a year and, the spearfishing bug finally biting this summer after many years of contemplation. Loved it. So, off to o'three tomorrow for a new suit (coming down from Bristol).
Based on tomorrows (hopefully) good weather, can anyone recommend a descent spot to start hunting (not asking for secret spots) just a good starter for 10. Been scuba diving for 20 odd years so know the Portland/harbour area fairley well but, not perhaps from a spearos perspective.
Also current conditions? Viz etc.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

A mullet's stomach can often become distended like that . . .

Is Chesil Cove worth a dive? Looking for somewhere new to try out this Friday and with the winds coming from the East I thought it looked like a good bet. Many fish there? Wouldn't usually ask about dive spots on the open forum, but I know Chesil Cove is hardly a secret! Just wondering if it's worth my while driving down to give it a go.
