Guys I did not make the rules!!!

Mr X I have posted a remark on the staff thread please follow up your ideas there.

Mr Lizard when the FOM was in its infancy, the rules were discussed in length for many months amongst the (interested) staff members & they were finally deemed to be very fair - I thought being criminal was about breaking rules?

I am impressed with Clive's amazing fish as much as anyone & I hope the fish will make the front page on the HOF but the FOM has to have rules to be a fair competition.
If anyone would like to suggest a change of the existing rules then please do so but do you really think it is fair to change the rules 3/4 of the way through the season?

Clive,

Thanks for the wise words. I have the tide charts for Portland and will also be checking the Easytide predictor before setting off tonight.

I was in Portland a couple of weeks ago and have a very good idea of where I need to be, and its not too close to Bill Point.

Went in down at Sandsfoot at sunrise this morning. Vis was about 2-3m close in and improving to 3-4m further out. Didn't see anything except one mullet which scooted across just out of clear view. Then as I was swimming back to the car to go elsewhere I was in about 4ft of water and close to the shore when I spotted a HUGE fish which I assumed must be a wrasse. Crept up on it and realised slightly too late that it was a massive bass. Stupidly though I waited too long for a good shot and it shot off, leaving me shooting from behind at a fast-disappearing torpedo. Narrowly missed what would have been my best fish ever. Damn it. :duh

Anyway, I shoved a plastic bag on the car seat and headed over to Chesil Cove where I met Barny (Barny02 on here) and we looked at the brown water and decided to go back to the sheltered waters of the harbour. He showed me a spot I hadn't been to before so I took a look but didn't see any fish and didn't have much time left before I needed to head home and I wanted to check out Castletown so I got out and drove over there.

Got in near the Castletown slipway and almost immediately shot a bass. Then missed a shot (I never used to miss - must be out of practise!) at a larger bass. Then a little while later shot a good size mullet.

All in all a successful morning and good to get back in the water after a month or so off.

happened to be working o portland today - Chesil and West side all blown out and Bill point also blown out, and believe it or not East side blown out! Harbour is about only place that MIGHT have some viz!

As for FOM, would be cool to be in it, but I don't get a paper, and only way I could prove the date was on Sky.... However, I'm not precious about it entering if its going to stir up a hornets nest! :) I'll leave it to the staff to decide, and what ever they say goes, no problem! Just be happy for it to be in HOF :)

AHHH what happened ! went to get in Cove this morning should have taken a surf board ! massive swell with nice brown water. Portland harbour had 2 metre viz and sandsfoot not much better. Had a look down Lyme the swell is along Chesil and big ! Not sure what the East side of Island was like ! Amazing no wind ,HOT but such a friggin great swell

Yes it was the cleanest part of the coast I saw today and I covered some ground!

Tide was well on its way out whicn was causing about two foot of surf over the two main sections of reef either side and between were fine, just a nice swell working its way through.

Hi everyone,
yesterday I spent 6 hrs in the water. Started from Durdle Door and ended at Mupe Rocks - we (me and my buddy) were by small inflatable boat. Visibility was from 5 to 8m. At St Oswald's Bay I saw small (about 1.5m long) TUNA. No chance to spear it - was too fast and about 6m away. But its shape and moves made me sure that was a tuna.
We got a full cooling box of Mullets and Pollacks. Saw only a few small, under size bass. Where are they (decent Bass) gone? Is it possible that they are frightened by tunas? Last Sunday a fisherman said that he saw one Yellowfine from Worbarrow Tout. So tunas keep hunting Dorset waters!
Today at 8am I went to Lulworth Cove to make shore dive. I was sure that visibility should be better then yesterday. Cirkled the cove, finned outside both sides west and east, dove to 10m deep and couldn't find any. The best was about 1m! Very strange - no wind and no waves, only a gentle swell, even smaller then yesterday.
What's going on. Reading other posts I see that all the coast, at least from Plymouth to Poole is not diveable.
