Hi all. Thought I had better put in a dip report as I am a bit of a lurker! Got in about 10.45pm and decided to go left. Slowly swam along with varied viz from 3m to what seemed as far as my light would penetrate, lovely got to be fishey. Saw lots of eels, small squid and all manner of bait fish together with 5 small bass that would have been only just on the mark so, let them grow on. Popped a Flounder and at one point thought I saw another light. Quickly shut of my torch couldn't see it, must have been a reflection or something. Swam on but still no good bass, must have been getting on towards 1.00am when I got another Flounder just sorted it when my head torch lit up two more spearos on the surface within a few meters! I sat up right quick not expecting to see anyone, caught my gun handle on my weight belt buckle and promptly dropped it. Turned out it was Lee and another.(sorry mate didn't catch your name) Nice to see you. Had a brief chat while I recovered my belt and sorted out the tangle that results when you put your belt back on with your floatline under it! Swam on my way with them heading back and I got a pollock, another Flounder and at last a half decent Bass. Missed a couple of Bass and swam over a rug of Flounder who was under my chest before I saw him and I couldn't back up in time. Nothing worth a pop on the return swim. Great dive.

Was good to meet you again Steve. Unlucky on the flounder mate. The other guy was my newbie brother tye.
Got in at 9pm and we carried on till 2:30am!! like Steve said; vis was from 3-8 meters in places.
Up until we bumped into Steve I was having a pretty bad night; missing 5 bass all over 5lb. There were plenty of smaller ones around in the 1/12 - 2lb mark which I ignored, but they kept my newbie brother busy and he managed 4 of the better ones. There were also tons of flounder about; again kept Tye happy and he nailed 4 just under 1.5lb. I was still holding out and missing the better fish.
After talking with Steve we headed off in the other direction and was imeadeatly confronted by a Donkey bass of around 9lb or more, point blank range shot through the gill plate and my spear snapped at the base on one of the notches never to be seen again!! Damn!!!! so I take my back up longer 80cm gun and continued in a very very fishy area full of big silver flashes of bass!
I ended up with 1x jumbo 6lb mullet and 6x bass; biggest 2 just over 4lb and the others 3lb,,,oh and a nice lobster as a bonus.
Tye finished with a lot of good flounder; one of which was double sided (dark and patterned on both top and underside?) 4 small 2lb bass, and after I moaned at him he nailed 2 nice 4lbers and picked up a brown crab.

You definitely dive different waters to me! Well done on a great dive. I am algal green with envy.
Good job Lee and Tye. No wonder I didn't see any fish on the way back, all on your stringer mate nice one.
Loving all the reports coming in well done lads, am playing the guess where they were game, reckon I'm doing all right just need to squeeze a few more dives in now!
The Gnsy fish in , will be brilliant fun, a weekend of diving and a beer or three. From my experience of last years mini version, I can totally recommend it. The ferry is not too expensive and if hotels are not your thing, Foxfish has offered his garden to campers (limitted space)
One for the Dorset boys who used to know Rowan when he was about...since leaving the giant mullet and pollack alone....he's been quiet but busy as you can see

Good old Rowan, he always was a tad of a nutter.
Bloody great fish though, Brett give him my best if you ever speak to him.
Didn't get in over the weekend due to lack of vis.
With my boredom I decided to build a nice garden pond instead and filled it with koi and a sturgeon.
Was all good until I caught my 3 month old son with my speargun in hand heading out to the pond.

Definitely. I'm booked on the early Saturday morning sailing from Poole and returning Sunday night. Anybody else on that ferry?

just to say thanks for the information given in the Lulworth cove and Portland harbour thread. In the end I went to sandsfoots last Saturday and Sunday. I was expecting a pretty bad vis but I had between 2 and 5 m so not bad! not a lot of fish around (or maybe was my pretty bad technique!), just saw two small bass and crabs! Definitely I have to buy a better wetsuit as I was very cold after 2 hours in the water! To be the first spearfishing experience in Uk was really great!

Glad you enjoyed your first uk underwater adventure, unlucky you didn't see much, but keep at it and that will soon change. Plus also recently it's been a bit strange diving around Weymouth, there's not loads of fish around at the moment but hopefully they will come back in pretty soon : )
