Nice reports guys, cheered me up no end, still stuck in central Birmingham and being land locked even the canal is beginning to look tempting! Oh well a week in Cornwall as of Friday night so dive dive and dive is my plan. Gonna need it after this week, cooked breakfast every day, full on lunch and food served at 11 and 3 as well can't be doing me any good. Not to mention the evenings.. What do you do alone in central Birmingham of a night, curry and hotel bar seems to be working for me, god my poor body!

That sounds like a rigorous dive training schedule you have there.

Well its a new regime, I am surely not the first to test it but will happily report on its effectiveness!
As I mentioned custom suits anyone have a reccomendation on where to head for a hassle free but top knotch result.. In fact advice in general about materials, features and the like appreciated.

Oceanos or Elios are both good. Oceanos are cheaper but Elios have wider range of neoprene choices. I loved my Oceanos when I got it but I love my Elios (Heiwa neoprene) quite a bit more as it is more flexible.

I would go along with Spiderman, Oceanos are really good suits & quite a bit cheaper than Elios (& a lot faster to make it would seem) but not quite as good but, hey a custom made camo suit for less than most off the shelf suits cant be bad!

We've got the Oceanos suits too and they're fantastic. My brother is excellent shark bait*- ie a bit rotund- and so he had a zip fitted on his from the chest down to help getting it on and to maintain a tighter waist below his gut. He found cold water got in through the zip area so any ideas how this can be lessened?

Good tips on the anti fogging but I have tried that and still fogged up. I'm bloody cursed.. but this antifog really worked for me!

Scoob, I used to always remove my snorkel myself when going under, which I suggested to my brother too, but now I'm trying to keep it in and I had no problems this time. TBH I wasn't expecting him to go under so soon but he didn't die and he learned the hard way and won't forget... ;)

*I can also swim faster than him so he's good protection from sharks as far as I'm concerned. :D

Just got back from 2 back to back dives of 4 hours each; one day and one night.

Day dive started out well with a nice garfish taken just behind the gill plate on a long distance shot with my double strung and banded gun. Also knocked out some bass mullet and flatboys. Here's some of the fish from that sesh:

Then a very productive night dive with my brother tye. We had plenty of of very good size bass and mullet in the 4-5lb range; best being ehen both Tye and myself simutaniously shot a 5lb bass each that were cruising side by side just like us; maybe brothers too?? Lol.
Wr started the dive in deep water over sand looking fir plaice which tye managed alongside a john dory!!!

I've heard a lot about snorkel in/out, but one thing stuck in my mind - with it in, you have to blow out to clear the snorkel at the surface and that action isn't good from a SWB point of view, so if you're diving deep and staying down a long time, I think snorkel out is best practice - though others may jump in and correct me! :) As Scoobaru say - I reckon snorkel out gives a more relaxed feeling too.

One other thing worthy of mention on snorkles is if you suffer SWB or any other 'drowning' issue the snorkle will seruiously hamper any resuccitation efforts. Teeth clamped down meaning it can't be removed, allowing water to flow into mouth an therefore potentially lungs throat etc. This is reason enough for me to remove that along with the fact there will be no noise from the snorkle filling as you dive which may scare the fish!

Hi, as lee said we had a good day and a night dive. Got lots of mullet, bass and flatties and my first john dory all of good size. Few fish there to catch up on the spec comp lol. same about my monster bass which was chilling next to lees legs, temping to shoot it right then but did not fancy putting my brother on my stringer so I swam after the bass intil I had a clean shot, i shot it and my spear gun was ripped right out of my hands and the fish must of got off was soo gutted!!! the (Bass)tard was about 10-13lb. will upload some photos in a few mins. The john dory was about 4m down and about a foot off the bottom.

Great catch Lee and Tye.

I went in last night with Ben (Fearthespear) at a local spot. The viz close in was pretty terrible, with better viz further out in about 7m of water. Hundreds of scad and mackerel close in - I took 4 of these for dinner. A few small bass about, but nothing to shoot.

A bit later on I was just getting back into the sea in the shallows when I saw a fairly large fish moving slowly along with its back breaking the surface. I put my face in to be confronted by a good size mullet but I didn't have my gun ready. Grrr.

Ben took a large sole and a plaice, but I suffered with a non-equalisable ear (I now have a cold, so that explains that one) so couldn't dive.

Carried on hunting in the shallows for a bit but didn't see much except a couple of cuttlefish, millions of scad, and another reasonable sized mullet. I shot at the mullet and just skimmed its head, at which point it swam straight at my face. I tried to grab it but missed. Ah well.

Lovely warm water and beautiful phosphorescence.

cheers misterlizard ya there seemed to be loads of scad about and headbutting mackerel shame about your mullet I lost a few that night as well. Ohya just rememberd I got upper cutted by a flounder which knocked my mask up over my head and felt like Ali punched me in the nose.

Had a great dive with Clive Thomas today, he took me out the bill and taught me how to dive it properly. Was certainly an eye opener. I dived depths up to 14m whilst he managed around 18m. The Vis was around 8m so we both opted for longer guns with Clive using a 100 and me using my new double banded 90. We fished holes, kelp beds and the shallows for around 4hours. Then we dived the tide for a few drifts.

I only came home with one mullet around 3lb, Clive caught 6 pollack around the 2lb mark and a bass around 3lb aswel as a huge brown crab. I saw lots of pollack around the 1.5lb mark with some up to 3lb (which I couldn't get a shot off at). Also some hugggeeee wrasse lots of mullet, a bass (which ripped off my spear) around 3lb and a John dory around 1lb which I followed for a bit just out of curiosity, and a couple of garfish.

For me it wasn't the best catch I've had but I was more than happy watching Clive and learning how he dives. Now after 5 a side last night and swimming against the tides at portland my legs are stuff and sore. Was also pleased that I had no problems what sievert with me ears so looks like I'm fully healed : )
