Don't you just love seals!!
He was probably checking what was going on in his larder! It's a thrill to see one. A boy on the beach who lived locally didn't know they lived in the area (nor did I). BTW we had a bass & a mullet for lunch yesterday and the mullet was thought to the tastier of the two by everyone by the end of the meal (we had one hold out for the bass but he eventually changed his mind). A well dressed angler (in flyfishing gear) I met at the car park, suggested removing the skin - but we cooked both intact, just gutted.

So are we allowed to catch are uk salt water cray/craw fish? and eat them???

set some traps for lobster and crabs and on in the river for eels. il pic em up tomoro.

Salt water crays are very scarce on the ground so I doubt you'll have much luck in catching one! As always, they have fallen victim to commercial fishing pressures and have been almost wiped out in most UK areas. Check out the following;

Project180

Not sure what the current legal status is as to their capture.

Light winds I see but easterly in direction from tomorrow well into next week. Mmmm...
We jumped in off Portland Bill last Sunday and that was a mullet show and the tide was not ideal. We then relocated to Chesil and initially it was quite clear but soon deteriorated with only cocky teenager pollack and a nice cuttlefish taken by a buddy. I honestly never even had a glimpse of bass for a change. Tried all over with drops of 2m to 12m....I was quite keen for a trigger off Chesil though. Saw the remains of that wreck which is pretty much broken up and not very prominent anymore it seems.

Set a tap tuesday night and the sea fairys left me a load of shrimp and velvet crabs..

Thanks sea fairys.

O and could nealy sea the bottom so im sensing a dive in a few days if it stays calm...

I guess you were on the Adelaide - over at Chesil - did you see any Triggers there?

Jimy - do you eat velvet crabs - I am interested how you do it - I have caught loads in the past but always throw them back. I guess they are OK for stock?

I initially thought that, but it turns out the reason we saw no triggers was that it was not the Adelaide wreck nor the landing craft. Just some other mangled remains a lot closer to Chesil Cove.
Hope the vis holds this weekend for all.
Might be down Sunday with 'Weissman' aka 'Glowworm'rofl
cheers

James in Guernsey we have a season for Velvet swimming crabs (we call them Lady crabs) & it is illegal to collect them in the summer.
The meat is very sweet but so fiddly to pick however they do look fantastic served as part of a sea food platter.

That's aka Viessmann Surfnspear rofl rofl

Weather looks good this morning so i will go and see the old folks on Portland this afternoon and check the vis while i'm there.

Who else is up for a dive.....

Went for a dip just around the corner from chesil this morning..Vis wasnt too bad 4m in the shallower parts.
Saw plenty of mullet. Got one, but it was a poor shot, and it ripped itself off the spear! Poor fish. Next came a fairly large shoal of them, but, as they were coming into range, they saw me. End of.

So in the end i left with nowt. But i was a nice swim, and, found plenty of fishing lures! So it wasnt a complete failure.

Dived with Surfnspear,Podge and his mate today.Surfnspear and myself caught some scallops and a Golden Grey Mullet.

The trigger is working on my gun again boys so panic over....:martial:martial

Got in down at Portland for a swim around and had a really pleasant and relaxing dive.
Not too many fish seen although I did miss a nice Mullet on the way back in and only saw a couple of sand puff’s from disappearing flat fish while out a bit.
Great to dive with a couple of friends and even better to catch up with one from TO LONG ago.
Nice one Glowworm and SurfnSpear.:)

Below is a picture of a couple of down and outs that happened to be in the car park.rofl
