what a fish fearthespear good job, had a night dive with JamesT friday we got 2sole 1 plaice 1 crab for are troubles viz was really good so nice to be back in the water

Nice mullet Buster.
I'm thinking of doing a night dive on tuesday this week if anybody wants to go.

Well we (stuckinsurrey and myself) had a little look today after driving have way around the Dorset coast line we got in and found these just lying on the bottom waiting for me.
It’s starting to get cold boys after 2 hours and even with a lot of up and downing I started to feel the chill.
Absolutely fantastic day mind, hardly any wind and bright winter sunshine top class stuff for November.
Bumped into SurfnSpear and he’d had a few as well, so a fishy weekend all round.

I put the sea weed in my cool bag to keep everything nice and fresh and as a spin off the gardener says its good for the soil.
Thankyou John may your piles bleed and your warts fester, see you soon and the price of your next lot of pellets has just gone up.

Thats a good idea with the seaweed. how do you find the scallops, i live in brighton and have never found one are they only in certain areas or am i looking in the wrong place, would love to get some of those.

mmm...scallops! Alright J, have a look at the Fearthespear gallery here on deeper blue and on page 2 is a pic or two of scallops, one is of one as you would find it on the sea bed. To harvest them just pick 'em up! Hope this helps.

Went out yesterday and the sea is still very warm'ish - around 14c Saw plenty of mullet and the smallest bass I have ever seen. It was swimming with a shoal of smelt, which where actually bigger than the bass!!
Then I spyed another bass, this was considerably larger, but looking straight at me.. come on turn, turn, turn, turn - it's not going to turn - so I fired before it bolted and missed
Got 2 nice mullet on the way back, which eased a little of the frustration of missing a good bass ---- now polishing my torch ready for Tuesday night
Well done the rest, especially Ben for that excellent bass -- lets hope the weather holds for thsi weekend ......

Well after much dithering about where to go I finally decided on Chesil due to the glassy conditions yesterday morning. I had been torn between a favourite (Osmington), a new dive (shore approach to the harbour arms) or the 'still making my mind up about' dive (Chesil). I went for the latter but am sure the harbour arms would have been the better option by all your accounts. I got in at the far left hand side and went south for quite a way and was cursing like hell for most of it. The conditions were very good but I just could not find the fish. I tried 2 ft of water crawling to 15m deep dives where the sandy spots are and nothing but a very few little pollack. I just did not understand where all the fish were as the tide was pushing and they should have been coming in. Anyway, I came back to the shallow exit point and after checking all of those tunnels/boulders/weed I was about to get out in disgust when a shoal of mullet came through. I managed to take 3 in quick succession using the good cover 90 degrees to their kamikaze runs.
Not a great catch but better than a kick in the teeth as this time of year.
Note the snipped off end of the tail on the larger mullet, a clean cut and almost wondering if the mako was just a little to slow for him!rofl
Good to see you again Podge and Jim. When we are done with all these mullet and bass, we need to get together and raid 'Bassworm's':t plaice venues this winter.
Nice to see your fish Ben, Ade et al, as I think it's all contributing to a good late season 'high' for everyone. Feel sorry for the bass killer Will watching from afar.
P.S. I have not visited for ages but I actually managed to find something at Portland Oceaneering yesterday to buy:head. Not the new rubbers I was after but the end plastic muzzle unit for my gun. I had cracked the spear guiding arch on a night dive a while back when firing downwards into a red mullet. Problem was that I misjudged how shallow I was and the spear never had a chance to properly fire and the spear bowed and the rubbers fired the gun backwards and into my upper lip. It felt like a solid punch in the face:martialand bled but was amusing as hell.rofl:crutch
Anyway, the gun has been slighly off accuracy wise and I am quite happy that I got the part for £4.50.
I asked about replacement stock such as new rubbers and Tina said unlikely until after christmas...Mmmm...it's a shame to see the shelves bare down there.

Was lovely day yesterday, weather was fantastic! And a couple of flatties and scallops for our efforts too! well done everyone on their catches, good to hear everyone is still getting in amongst the fish! We saw two people at sandsfoot in the morning - dont know whether its any one on here?
Two cool things i saw yesterday was a perfect tiny plaice, about 2inches across, well hidden on the sand. We also saw a pipefish/seahorse kinda creature, well camoflauged and about 18inches long - any ideas?
Really pleased as the summers manic weddings/holidays/parties schedule is finally coming to an end - so a few more free weekends beckon and hopefully some more diving!
