Guys - I heard through the grapevine that two spearos got nicked in Portland over the weekend for mooring up and diving under one of the harbour jetties - anyone know any more about it? Apparently the guys were arrested and all their gear, including boat was confiscated!!

Looks like the HM is getting pretty serious - watch-out...

Sorry if it was any of you guys,

James

Did anyone find out anymore about the above? Could be a worrying precedent!

Anyone been out in the Swanage area recently? The bloom is still very bad in Poole Bay, but I was wondering whether it would be better out Tilly Whim way? Hoping to sneak a dive in tomorrow night in between being vomited on! :yack

Afternoon gang!

Had a dip with Fluffchucker John last night. The viz was Volvic standard in places - like floating in air! Mad considering the bloom is murking up just about everywhere else...

No bass spotted but I managed to find a lobby, quite a good size too. I would like to tell the story of how, at 20 metres, I wrestled it out of a hole in a racing tide while fending off a mako. Truth is that it was just strolloing around in about 1.5m of water and I just picked it up!

How lucky was that?! Happy days

Ben

Rick, BSA comp was between Blackers Hole and Chapmans Pool. Vis considering the bloom was actually not to bad with patches ranging between 2-4m. When the the tide got on it did seem to get worse and there was some comedy watching spearos trying to get up current like salmon back to the moored boats finishing point.
The thing was there was not many fish around and some posted no catch. Some good size mullet and very few small to medium bass, maybe one about 5-6lb. Also a terrible pinging in the water which was possibly the subs in the training area. And you know the story there with dolphins...if they are kicking about :naughty
Come to Vobster!

edit - What is Podge going to do with no spidercrab in the quarry! Glowwpump is probably going to plumb an 11lb 3oz pike!:D and Bryn is going to pat us all down for Mares sten's about our bodies..rofl

P.P.S - If anyone fancies another read.....check this out.

Podge, is it the Old Down Touring Park and The Old Down Inn, Emborough, Somerset, BA3 4SA, 01761 232398 at our disposal?
Would'nt it be nice for those targets over at the 12m ledge Bryn;)?

Right.. Just had an email back from Vobster and they dont care where we dive

Hi Bryn,

No, it's not complusory - you pay to use the water so you can dive anywhere. You might find the 12m ledge on the far side handy as it's not visited by divers. Emma and I have discussed putting some targets over there for spear fishing training....

If you need to chat,

All the best,

Tim

I just want to do a bit of training with a bunch of spear fishermen ( No guns! ) and hooking onto lines and doing the comp thing is not very real for us. I am an AIDA instructor and a member of the BFA, also I have dived and taught with Emma F quite a few times.

so you wont have to join the BFA ( Unless you want to.. ) Podge as ever you are a star doing the ground work and lets try to keep the numbers limited to no more than 8 guys in the water. Any more than that and I cant keep track of what the Feck's going on!

If you could sort the numbers and everything out between you ( John ? Podge ? ) that would be grand. :)

Hi folk, just to let you know had a dive this afternoon down sandfoots/castle cove area, and was very surprised as the vis was very good, bit gutted as did miss one of the biggest bass i;ve ever seen underwater and also saw a shoal of smaller fish, beside's that they was very little else, apart from the one surprise i got was a seal, and he decided to follow me for a good 20mins,must admit it was pretty cool at time..Hopefully im goin for another dive tomorrow eve, will keep you posted..

Chaps I've contacted a mate who's in the police marine section. He's going to find out what he can but he doesn't think it was the police who got involved. He's going to ask around some of the other organisations that have involvement in the harbour and get back to me.

In early evening at S**** H*** ;)

Vis was excellent, saw a lot of mullet, I left them as I was on the look for a bass or two, but none came along :( ho hum

Next stop Lobster Quay for a spot of hunting coarse fish - see you all Saturday morning... :)
