hi all

We still don't have dates for this yet. I know that Adel Abu Haliqa is talking to them about delaying the dates until May (after the Vertical Blue contest) and also it appears that this year the comp will be in the new olympic pool!

as soon as i have information I will let you all know.

No news of a women's category either, somehow, i don't think its going to happen.

Natalia can compete with the men!

Any new disciplines?

Are there any native female divers in the region?

He could make it in a cultural event by inviting the best of the different apnea cultures over, covering their travel expenses. A nice price would be say E 2000,- to be spend on dive equipment. So the winner can buy some fins and masks etc for his/her community. And E 500,- for participating - because the person could not earn a living for the time he was away.

For the Pro - freedivers a small all-star NO suit - NO FINS pool and depth competition would be cool - retaining the traditional feel.

The intermixed presence would be a great for inspiration for the divers present, exchanging technique and experiences. A few film crews could portrait the divers and their traditions, blending it into the competition event. I'm sure it would be a great event and documentary.

Guys, Adel found out 2 days ago that the Freediving contest will be held in the Dubai Olympic Swimming pool and the dates are 7, 8, 9 of April.

I do not have any details on prizes yet.

Tnx.. can you please post the detail as soon as you will have them?

It's a long and expensive trip from here to Dubai

Hi Sara,

Thanks for the efforts, small correction here please. The original dates of 7,8 and 9 April was announced several months ago through an official press conference. I personally requested the organizers to have a second thought about the dates because it's the same dates of Vertical Blue 2011, specially that several international athletes have personally asked me to do so as they want to attend VB or else have other reasons. Fazza organizers promised me to try their best on that issue and came back few days ago confirming that they are not changing the dates. Actually they want to fix the dates for the coming years to be always the same (ofcourse keeping in mind that is has to be a weekend so few days earlier or later than those dates). So it's still 7,8 and 9 April as originally announced. The pool was still under negotiations earlier but again few days a go was finally confirmed to be the venue for Fazza this year ..

Best of regards to all and safe dives !

Hi Everyone !

I would like to share with all of you the latest update regarding Fazza Competition. I got the information right from the organizers. It is important to spread them around so people will have equal and fair opportunity of competition.

First of all, the Dubai Sports City Complex is officially called "Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex". So when you look for it or ask a taxi to take you there make sure you use this name.

Also please notice the following:

1. Fazza official Competition days will be 7th, 8th and 9th April (Thursday, Friday and Saturday).
2. There will be 3 official training days, 4th,5th and 6th April (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday). Training will be available from 2 PM to 7 PM on those days. No training will be allowed outside those timings. The official safety team will be present during the training hours. No training will be allowed without the official safety team be present and in control.
3. The competition will take place in Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohamed Sport City state of the art pool. The pool is 5 meter deep and the temperature will be 27C.
4. There will be 4 lines for the attempts. Each line will have a bottom weight, a thick rope (anything between 12 mm to 18 mm) and a standard freediving buoy (the round inflated tube with a cover that has handles all around it). So relaxation and breath up on the line will be easier and more standard than previous years.
5. There will be 40 minute notice for the athletes before their official attempt (notice though this is not an OT concept so few minutes plus or minus is there). Warm up will be only dry. No one will be allowed in the water except the athletes with their attempt in place.
6. The pool is indoor, shaded and conditioned. There will be seated area for athletes and spectators. There will be soft drinks and water provided for everyone.
7. All rules are exactly the same as previous years.
8. There will be a Freediving Traditional History exhibition by the side of the pool for spectators and athletes alike to visit during the competition days. You can have information about freediving history in Arabia in general and UAE in particular as well as pearl diving as the main reason for freediving in the old days. It would be a good chance to see how advanced, professional and smart were the freedivers of the region on those old days ..

Hope that helps you prepare yourself better ..

All the best everyone, and hope to see you soon !

Adel

Hi Adel tnx for that info... tell me can I use my own buoye for breathup in the water before start or I must use that one already in the water?

Hi Goran !

Good question. I will check with the organizers and let you know. I don't see why you shouldn't use your own if it's only for the breath up time (extra floating help such as noodles or other floats) but as long as you are pulling down on the official float when you start your attempt. Still I will check to be sure and will come back to you -insha'allah ..

Just keep in mind that you can't have a coach with you in the water and when you leave your float on the surface and dive it should not disturb other athletes (by floating to where they are). Anyway let's see what the big guys say.

Adel

Hi Again,

Ok Goran, I asked the organizer. It is not recommended to get your own float but still you can if it's very important for you. Just keep in mind the following:
1. The float you bring should be as small (short) as possible.
2. It needs not to physically disturb the other athletes AT ALL. So it has to be attached to your official diving line with a rope that is short and so when you leave it and dive it will not swim away near to other lines. If it gets in the other athletes way it will be removed and you will be disqualified.
3. You have to leave "your" float BEFORE you start your dive and can grab it ONLY AFTER you surface from the water. Between the two points you need to use only the official line and float provided by the organizers.
4. The organizers preserve their right to refuse using any aids other than those officially provided by them, and their decision is not negotiable and final.

Hope that helps.

Best Regards

Adel
