Dubai Freediving Competition 2011 (Fazza)

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I wonder how did the final heat look like?

scenario 1?
Goran and Alexey were doing static at the same time, so they could see each other (without googles You can see shapes well)?? Goran saw Alexey coming up, so he came up few moments later?

scenario 2?
Or it was only 1 athlete at a time?

I've read rules, and there was no signals allowed to athlete, so Goran had no clue what time it is, I believe banging with some metal object and making noise (using pool stairs)was prohibited.
If so, does it mean they both push themselfs to maximum and there was only 5 seconds difference?:blackeye insane
congratulations to all participants, I've never treat static as discipline, but this "pure static" reflect freediving much more than the one we are used to making it in open water would be even better but of course, logisticly more complicated

Never watch a given camel in the mouth! - Anyway we got a expression here, but that one has horse in it instead. It means always accept gifts without criticism.

Hi guys... it's about to rain in a desert go figure

It was a crazy competition, in the qalify we ware relaxed and calm, so i culd have dne like 8min for sure and probably Alexey was able to do much more. But in the finals I was nervus like hell and Alexey to I think... I went first and had a small packing bo coz hiperventilation while starting, I tend to do that while I am stresed... I was loosing air so I went down like this hoping I will not bo compleatly.. the dive was a mess of course so this was more or less my max it this conditions... I was sure Alexey will do much more... and he was to like he told me after the dive.. but nervous took a part of him to... so he came up with a small samba after just 6:53... so suprisingly I have won... William came up close to 6min.. improving his diving tehnique a lot hahaha... on the first day he was like a balerina around the rope lool

hehehe nice one kars. i am sure goran is allready making a stable that will fit the beast/s.

these days, around here , liter of gas worths around 3 liters of water. it would be cheeper to win a camel.

he could trade to herd of camels but in the end that would be the same thing. range rover (15-20l/ 100km) , raged herd even more ...... there's no hope for the man.

pfff, why bother competting rofl

jokes asside ..... i it's great to see competitors can get something out of the hard work

@goran

congrats onec more!

hope you'll have enough money by the time you get back to buy us a beer, you lucky SOB

Matt, few years ago this competition was taking place in open water

uld trade to herd of camels but in the end that would be the same thing. range rover (15-20l/ 100km) , raged herd even more ...... there's no hope for the man.

Schtuka, my boss has the same Rover and I drive it often, it's 20l on a good day but more like 25L. But I do floor it a lot since it's supercharged and fun
Not good contributor to CO2 emissions but good contributor to American economy

I believe at some churches you can buy dispensations for your CO2 sins, and others more old fashion ones too. Maybe I should buy some to since I do lot's of sports an bicycle to work, exhaling more CO2. I better do a nap, heck I can call it a Nap for Humanity! When I'm at sleep at my job, I can reply to my boss I'm concerned about global warming thus I'm napping to safe humanity. Actually we should work inside greenhouses, because plants thrive on CO2! And O boy I love the O2 that is generated in return! Internet Radio show: No Agenda - Napping for Humanity

On topic:

Epic competition final! Awesome! How much air did you have left after the surface BO moment?
Can you describe how you held on to the rope?

Yeap the final was interesting I dont know how much air did I lose, I usaly pack like 35 times for this, and around my 27 or something pack I startet to go out... I have lost some air but not much I thing becouse I fastly startet to go down tre rope to awoid real BO. I have to concetrate to next 10-20 seconds not to let my air escape becouse I was still in some pre samba state.... After all this I was ok, but this was allready enough to mess up my dve.

congratulations to all and especially Goran and Alexei for a nice battle! Sounds like a fun competition! Where you aloud to have a watch to monitor your dive time? How deep was the rope at?

Cogratulations Goran!!!:friday
And of course congratis to Alexey and William!
Hope you're having a great time now...

Gongratulations Goran!

I asked Alexey about competition, because I, Mikko and Veera were last year in Dubai Fazza competition and we trained with Alexey then.
Now after 2011 Fazza finals, Alexey told me that after Goran's a little over 7 min Fazza-static, he was 90 % sure that he can do longer than that. But this time in finals it wasn't so easy that he has planned...(Alexey has won and sold Range Rover in 2009 and 2010).

He told that William Winram hasn't trained for the comp, but will do that next year.

BTW. Our and Alexey's experience is that in Fazza rope your static time is about 1 min shorter than in a normal static. One main problem is, that during your performance you don't know how long time you have been underwater, because you are not allowed have an own clock in the competition.

it's so intersting to see the videos - thanks for posting amro.

i think it must be much harder to do longer statics like this without knowing what time it is - i would imagine that counting to oneself begins to seem appealing.....

kp

Doing static without knowing your time can be different, my suggestion, try it! - I think there could be some major advantages, when you embrace the matching mindset.

In Sweden Sebastian organised a static comp called Magic 3, where without help athletes tried to hit the 3' static, some came very close...

I always do static without knowing how much time has passed - works better for me and I'm never tempted to go past what my body is telling me. Than again my static times are terrible

Does no one else like doing their static without knowing how much time has passed?

As a side-effect, if you don't know the time, you might end up being more accurate in guessing how much time has passed...

Not knowing the time is actually how I do normal static, and I like it that way, yust do whathever you can nd that's it. So that is not a problem in this competition, at least not for me. The problem is no worm up aproach, cold water (even do it was warm this time) and the hold of the rope part of course... no noseclip or googles can be a problem for some... and of course for ones going deep on the rope change of pao2 can be a problem.

I do hold my breath without knowing the time & it works perfect with me as i listen to my inner time ;-)
anyway i think as Goran mentioned above no noseclip is problem for some like me but the worst is the safety scuba diver front of you "2.5-3 meter" breath from the tank & actually you can hear it very clearly so it was annoying to do static holding robe front of some on breath normally...so you can cut minimum 1-2 minutes from your normal breath holding activities.

I do give a positive sign for the Fazza competition on the preparation & the quality service + i think free diving it's all about to be with your self with no boundaries or equipments. In my opinion who ever can do such dives can easily do with equipments; Thats why the idea of the traditional UAE way of Diving

I did that a few years ago and did 3:00.40

I came second.

Not knowing the time I think would be secondary to the issue of holding the rope and the no noseclip for me. I get quite strong contractions and would struggle if I couldn't hold my nose.
