Hi,

We're seeing a large increase in the number of duplicate posts on the forums recently. This is normally seen when the forum software doesn't respond in time to a normal post request.

Can people let me know if they are seeing a particularly slow element on the forums or whether people are just starting to shiver so much they hit the mouse button multiple times?

I thought it was just me, Boss. :crutch

This new server or server is slower to load and submit than the earlier job. I can go for a refill whilst my posts upload. :head I'm on a coat hanger wire for a connection but at least the porn comes through faster. :hmm

The thing is - this server has been in place for well over a year now.

I'll dive into the settings and see if anything is funny in the config.

Redundant Redundancy

Hi Stephen,

I have also noticed a slow-down in response times for about the past.... say 30 days or so. I thought that it was the LAN at the office (yeah, I admit I poke my head in here from work too :D ) but it also happened from home (I have DSL so it isn't a bandwidth problem). What I notice is that the transfer will start and then ...... nada.... no data flow for a bit (a "bit" being defined as anywhere from 2-30 seconds or more) and then it all comes in a rush. Almost as if it is cacheing the transfer somewhere and then spewing it out at the last minute.....

Cheers,
Bret

I've noticed the same thing as Bret. It's all or nothing. Usually, if the server is doing this, I'll just go grab a doughnut and watch an episode of leave it to beaver to pass the time until db starts bangin' again. A couple times I have lost my large post, due to the server not responding. Since I am not a patient man, my second post is then very curt and rude. So I blame my lack of tact and judgement on all server problems from here on. Please direct all neg karma to Stephan.

Thanks

Ted

Remember in the suit not the office:D

Karma is hanging too

Hey Stephen,

When I give Karma, the screen that normally says "Thanks for giving Karma" (NOT the pop-up but the actual screen box) stays blank forever..... So far 5 minutes..... FYI - might have something in common with the other problem

Never had any problems with DB lagging except with the Karma. It really takes ages to process the request and it already deprived several people from well deserved positive carma. I just don't have tha patience.

I've had similar problem with karma,
but i've been able to get arounf it by refreshing the karma window.
Lately there has been some lag, but i havent had any problems with duplicate posts.

Very NOT funny!

Cute fuzz! :rcard NOT :vangry I got 4 notifications for this

Hey Stephen, what was really interesting is that I got 4 (that is right FOUR) notifications that there was a new post in this thread and they all said the same thing... that fuzz had relied to the thread.....

Bret,

Ease up my man. Fuzz was just making light of the situation. Technology isn't perfect, but DB has been well above the hash-mark compared to other sites....you gotta admit :hmm. If we were paying for this, you might have a case for being upset, but it's free :D .

BTW, I think we got four notifications because Fuzz might have posted 4 times, then deleted two. Maybe even he thought 4 was overkill  .

Ted :t

You are right

Actually, I was not that annoyed, otherwise I would have used SIGNED neg Karma

I wonder still about the notifications since the notification says "You will receive only one, Highlander" or something to that effect....

Na ja - HEY FUZZ!!!! JUST BUSTIN YOUR CHOPS MAN! NOTHING SERIOUS! ;)
