Hi Holger, good to hear from you mate.

In the end I went with the 5mm smooth outer/open cell inner. I know it's more delicate but i'm a weird body shape at the moment and chances are i'll need another one next year anyway, so it hopefully won't matter if it gets dinged up a bit (famous last words i'll bet).

Should arrive this week... counting down!

Hey Ben,

My 6mm opencell/smoothskin has held up pretty well over the past couple of years- it was my 3mm that blew apart on me after a season.:vangry

I think that by getting that material, which is very comfortable, in a thicker suit will make a difference in how well it holds up.

my suit is smooth skin outer and i have a few tears on it from bumping of rocks when spearfishing also need to be carefull when removing it as i put a tear in it with my fingernails trying to pull it of.

Intrestingly enough I put my foot through the leg of the very suit this thread was started about on a sandy beach in Sardinia last year. Moral: don't try to put sandy feet through fragile apnea suits. Even if you are quite excited.

I now have a kanoko lined suit, alas untested so far.

For maximum chepstow warmth in winter I recommend one of these smoothskin suits in combination with buffalo outergarments, or similar, whilst on the pontoon.

The buffalos are windproof and extremely good at wicking moisture away from the skin (or smoothskin suit) so you are pretty much dry with a minute or two. They are also very good for climbing mountains etc.

Thanks Jon - i've heard that the 5mm suits hold up a little better than the 3mm ones. I think the right approach is to be careful, but not cry too much if/when it does get a tear. Finger and toenails are probably the ones i'll worry about the most.

That's a great idea Guy, i'll look into it.
