Hi there,

As a final year engineering student I'm writing a report on speargun optimisation. I had a go on the Uni's tensile test machine to measure some properties of the rubbers. However, it would be nice to get some official data. I was hoping someone out there might know what kind of rubber it is that is used, and has a source of the material's properties. Maybe even some stress/strain graphs?

Also it would be beneficial to know what types, and grades of metals are commonly used for the barrel and spear shaft.

I'm in the process of looking at computer simulations, but experimental data would be great too.
Any information would be very helpful.

Thanks,
Jacob

I suggest you write to a manufacturer and tell them what you want to do. Preferably somewhere that you can get to, but I don't know which country you are based in. Although there is no guarantee that anyone will be willing to spend time with you, if you set out some sort of work plan, project format, aims and goals, etc. then it is worth a try and you never know your luck as something good may come of it.
