I cannot equalise AT ALL head down, even hanging my head over the edge of my bed.

Feet first, or horizontal, Valsalva works down to -30 metres.

I have just discovered that swallowing/BTV works fine, hands free, to about -25 metres, but again only feet first.

Not sure what is going on here! Would Frenzel be worth learning? If so, I am confused as to whether, as some YouTubers suggest, it can be learned in 5 minutes, or whether it takes months!

Any thoughts?

Hey there, as i was wondering a lot as well about the why's of a Frenzel i googled a bit and found this vid pretty interesting:

If you are equalizing to 30 meters, you are almost certainly using Frenzel (or some varient of it) already. I'd try equalizing when you are slightly less than horizontal. If that works, keep slowly increasing the angle til you get to vertical.

You might want to get your adenoids checked. Picture a couple of marbles rattling around in your sinuses. If they get in the wrong position they can block off your eustachian tubes (among other things). When I first got scuba certified I had problems with chronic sinus infections, and bleeding every time I dove. Fortunately my doctor was also a diver and thought to run a scope up my nose. He removed the %^*# things, and I haven't had a problem since.
