I am a doctor of Ancient Chinese medicine and am deeply involved in understanding the physioloical process of life, both from a western scienctific perspective and the wholistic view of the east.

I am a recreational scuba and skin diver learning about hypoxia and the mind and bodies respones. I am less drawn to records and measuring depth and more drawn to the power to control anxiety and stress under water and learning to remain calm and equonomus.

I am a vipassanna meditator.

My current goals are to work on understanding the different approaches to pre-dive breathing. Any suggestion on where and how to start would be appreciated.

The subject you have raised is a fascinating one and one that has taken me also into many strange avenues.I co-operated with Dr Paul Gabbott from Oxford university and his research into the “silent”
areas of the brain , the Dorsolateral and Orbitomedial areas of the Prefrontal Cortex , that he named the Cognitive Executive and the Emotional Exectutrix respectively, and their relationship with the Medula and Pons . In other words Voluntary controls of autonomic functions.
I studied in India with several teachers of Yoga for periods of 6 months and read in the Libraries of Mysore and Dharmasala.I studied the pranayama ,kryias and Bandhas of the Nathas . Like you I also did Vipasana and some Tibetan techniques .
I corresponded with Dr Tatiana V. Serebrovskaya from Kiev her research was at one time the secret of the Russian athletes Olympic success . I studied the research from Stanford University’s Sleep research lab . Also of course Dr Lozanov’s methods of language teaching ,and much more .
I am still learning but the fruits of my weird meanderings have been incorporated into my system mental training for competitive freedivers and seem to work well.
