Building guns always involves a bit of trial and error, once the manufacturers sort their guns out by finding the right recipe then they just mass produce them. Timber guns you can add or remove wood or add ballast, tube guns are a little more difficult as there is the closed tube buoyancy and then you go backwards from there as you add parts to it. Some very slim tube guns float because they have very light plastic ends, in fact I recently bought a very cheap eurogun to see what you got for such a modest outlay. Will do a report on it in another thread.
