Well its still a little early in the season, but looking ahead for the year I was thinking that a f.o.m for March might kick the season off well...

The water is relatively warm, people are putting in catch reports...

So what do you want to do? March f.o.m yes or no? too early?

I personally think its a great idea as it encourages people to get out and look for fish. There are still bass around at the moment along with flatfish and maybe a couple of decent cod/pollock.

I'm all for it. I've been planning to get out more from march on. Great idea for a march FOM.

Yep, why not. I've been catching fish all through January and February (although last night wasn't so successful) so I'd be up for a FOM throughout the year.

For sure, my first bass of last year was pretty decent and caught towards the end of March so a thumbs up from me.

I think that only fish caught during daylight should count (night diving is too easy) what does everybody else think?

I think this was discussed before & although I agree with you Mike, it was decided that night time fish would count!
However - what do others think.....

I think night-dive caught fish should count, especially at this time of year. How many sane people would drag themselves away from a comfy warm sofa at 9pm, to climb into a rubber suit, hunt fish in 8deg water and come home smelling of p*ss? Well, me for one, but its something I'm working through with my therapist :).

I agree. I pretty much only dive at night during the winter months. Perhaps we could ensure that when entering a fish for FOM during the winter we include details about whether it was a day or a night dive. Then that could be taken into account when deciding on a winner for that month.

That sounds fair and reasonable to me, a short line to indicate if the fish was day or night speared and then its up to everybody to vote accordingly .

Ok, so i will put something up for a March fom :)
Its a good idea to include the day or night aspect with the fish details.

I also thought we could include a 'fun' speccie hunt over the year using the fom entries, so i will put up some info for that too...

I think night fish should be in on FOM if your brave /crazy/skilled enough you deserve to be in !March sounds good too. Thanks to you for running it for us !

I feel That there should be no discrimination day or night. Some individuals can only get in at night and this is Very true for me during the winter months. In my expierience I would say that it is more difficult spearing at night; shooting line tangling, stringing a fish up, reloading the spear and not forgetting removing the buggers from the shaft, also I tend not to see many silvers at night compared to daytime, and if you do come Across a bass they scarper at the first glimpse of a torch beam (admittedly I have had a couple froze in the beam) but again, I've often found daydreaming bass sat on the bottom wanting to be nailed in daylight.
So in all my opinion would be that night diving is more difficult than daytime.

As for march, yep I reckon not to include this with FOW and to whack it up there as FOM as the end of march shoul bring the big bass!

All sounds good to me too....though I've yet to brave a night dive on my own.

Right then guys, some good fish being caught already! here's the March fom thread March FOM.

Please, only use that thread for posting your fom entries.

Please also see that we have the FOM, the FOY and also a fun speccie hunt...

Good luck! :)
