FII Level 1 Course

Mark Lozano came out to Lake Wazee in Wisconsin for the weekend of 7/16 & 7/17 to teach the Level 1 Freediving course. He is a really cool guy and is extremely knowledgeable. Every student in the class was able to set new personal bests for static apnea and depth.

As someone who has been diving for abalone and been spearfishing, I wanted to get some freediving training to better myself, and do so safely. I highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to increase their bottom time and/or depth in a safe matter.

Mark said he is willing to travel if enough students will get together a course, so contact him if you can get a group together.

I'm not an instructor, so it isn't my place to be handing out advice to people as they try to start pushing their freediving depths or static apnea times as it can be dangerous.

As far as safety, be close to your dive partner, anything can happen at any time and even though somebody says they are ok, it doesn't actually mean they are...

I'd say your best bet would be gather 5 friends and get Mark to come to you, or plan a trip to a location to where there is an FII instructor.

Chis, I wasn't asking to play an instructor, I was merely asking how Mark's lessons , sessions looks like.

Since I'm from Europe, The Netherlands I don't think I'll ever meet Mark, but I was simply asking to have an idea what people like from their courses. I'm also wandering How FII differs from the other education organisations.

I understand...

The first day consisted of a classroom portion where we went over safety and basic techniques... then got in the water where we practiced protecting peoples airways, looking for signs of loss of motor control, blackout, positioning ourselves, etc. We also worked on our entries. The day ended with static breath holds.

Day 2 was mainly depth related with being a dive buddy for another class participant along with some additiional safety with the instructor with no idea what was going to happen as they surfaced.

I think FII does offer a class somewhere in Europe...

Hi Mark,

How nice of you to chime in here!

I'll be in Lisekil (Sweden) from 5th until the 17th this August for the Nordic Deep depth competition Sebastian Naslund is organising. Great, great event with about 40 Freedivers going deep The comp is from 7 - 14 aug, give Seb a ring and I'm confident you can camp or stay over.
