hi,

I'm planning to go to fiji in october and would like to do some freediving while I'm there. Does anyone know any dive operators that support freediving or have contact details of any freedivers in fiji that I might be able to hook up with. I'm only there for a week but it sure would be good to do some warm water good vis diving.

Thanks

Andy

Bula Andy,

Just returned to Fiji. There are no dive companies offering freediving that I know of.Myself, I'm into spearfishing with some
'pure' freediving type training. I have posted a review of spearfishing in Fiji to www.spearfishing.com.au It was under their Chit Chat section, page 10, Jan.5,2003. i don't know if I'll be in Fiji in Oct. but email me just before coming to get an update.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for getting back to me on freediving in Fiji. I'm mainly in to freediving but also keen on spearing. I'm based in Sydney but keen to try some deeper, warmer water diving and also need to take the family on a holiday. It would be great if we could get together to do some diving if you are in Fiji around the middle of october. Would you be able to give me some info on the following:

1. Which resorts are in close proximity to deep water (40m+)?
2. Are there divers around the resorts that I am likely to be able to buddy up with or are there locals that for a small fee would be willing to dive and spot me on the deeper dives(someone who can dive to 10-15m comfortably)?
3. Do you know of any local divers that I could make contact with before heading over there?

Thanks in advance

Andy

Bula Bula Andy,
Some basic answers to your questions:
1. There are about 365 islands here. Maybe, about the same resorts. Although most have fringing reefs, 40+m. water is close by.
2. Divers at resorts are unpredictable but local boats usually availabe but make sure you are positive buoyant since most boat
operators won't dive.
3. I dive alone or couldn't dive at all. The reality of trying to find buddies here!
The island where I live is a $200 U.S. plane round trip from the main tourist
center in Nadi.

Jim
