went spearfishing for the first time this year in new jersey. visibility was 10-12 feet. nice warm day. water temperature was low 50's on top and high 40's on the bottom. stayed in the water for half an hour, didn't get cold at all. but the bottom line is there is no black fish or any kind of fish yet on the jetis off the beach. all i saw was clams, crabs, and that was it. i'll try it again next week.

p.s.- it was good to be out in the water after the long winter.

woo hoo for NJ!! where abouts where ya?? im gonna be poppin my head up to lavallette sometime this summer, probably even twice!!

I spend most of my summers in NJ, and usually do a lot of fishing. We usually go out of manasquan inlet (sometimes Barnegat inlet) out as far as Mud Hole and the Shark River Wreck. I have never spearfished in Jersey - only Florida and the Caribbean. WHere do you go? What kind of equipment do you use? I have a 90cm Beuchat with 18mm rubbers. Wil that work?

haha..not sure who taht post is for but ill answer anyway! im from bermuda, but my mom's side of the fam is from NJ so i liek to get there for vacation as much as possible..which is about 5 weeks a year..most during school. Here i only get to use a polespear, but i love it. Freedive with omer milleniums. Never even dived(dove?) in NJ, but i def want to fish there or even spearfisgh there if i ever get the chance!! And if i learn some spots up there i def want to get a speargun to keep there so i can go out whenevern im in lavallette!!

I'm in Old Bridge,NJ. I have never been spear fishing in Lavallete, so I can't help you; as far as the equipment goes, I use Riffe #1 and Omer Excalibur aluminum 75. dend76, 90 cm Beuchat should work just fine
