I got my Sporasub Dessault H. fins last night (44-46 / blue / full foot) and they make so much difference.

Really happy with them and can't quite believe the difference with these to the Mares Quattros. With the Sporasub DH I used alot less energy and seemed to go faster. Alot more relaxing than thrashing around with the Mares.

The only point worth mentioning is that I am harder to spot underwater apparently - my snorkelling buddies have got used to following a pair of fluorescent green Mares fins (very visible) but now I'm in stealth blue. Probably better for the occasional spearfishing trip though. (Might paint some go fast fluorescent stripes on the underside of the fins for poor vis days).

Got a pair of 3mm Cressi mettalite gloves that, erm, fit like a glove. And some Cressi 3mm mettalite socks too - not as warm as my 5mm boots but good anyway. Got a Superocchio mask too - good fit but having trouble with glasses - going to go a bit medieval with a grinder later to see if I can fit some old glases in.

And a knife for underwater snags and the occasional conger eel (saw a 4 foot one last night - just a baby).

Anyway - as a beginner all I can say is get yourself some good basic gear - it makes all the difference.
